At the risk of being sent to the abyss of topics.......
I've officiated high school football for nearly 20 years, I've never seen so many teams with such small rosters, not that long ago it was rare to see a team with sophomores on varsity, now many teams would struggle to have more than 35 kids without them. This a very recent development. I know concussions and the risk thereof have a substantial role but so does year around sports - not just hockey but wrestling and basketball as well. Friday I was talking to the host AD and he said for the first time in his school he had more boys out for cross country than football. It's great that kids are still finding extracurricular activities but it also makes me fear for the future of football.
