Comparing HS hockey in Alaska/other states

Post by TheHockeyDJ »

Just curious what you think of Alaska High School hockey, obviously not at the level of Minnesota's best schools.

First video is of two schools in Anchorage on the south side of town (6 HS teams in Anchorage) Dimond Lynx and South Wolverines often face each other in the Cook Inlet Conference final and again in the state final. They don't have enough teams to have a traditional section to state tourney, it's more like College hockey where the section tourney is an opportunity for some teams to play their way into state if they haven't earned a regular season performance bid. South is coached by a former Hill-Murray player.

On par with North Dakota high school hockey maybe? I lived in Fairbanks for a while, and there aren't too many schools playing ice hockey outside of AnchorTown.

Fairbanks West Valley
Fairbanks Lathrop
Monroe Catholic (Fairbanks)
North Pole
Hutchinson (Fairbanks alt. high school)
Delta Junction
Tok
Kenny Lake (near Copper Center)
Wasilla
Houston
Tri-Valley (Healy)

Who else?

There is a team in Juneau, and also on the Kenai Peninsula, a couple in Soldotna/Kenai and down in Homer. Homer has a cool setting, right on the "Homer Spit" a man made peninsula that jets out into resurrection bay (kevinbellarena.org).
