1/16 Duluth Marshall vs Hermantown

Post by Nevertoomuchhockey »

In town and jumped over to read the discourse on the big game. Imagine my surprise, no thread.
So if a guy wanted to escape 100 girls hockey teams and watch this game, what time would he need to arrive in order to get a ticket?

Hermantown 1-0 after 1 period. Shots 9-7 in favor of Duluth Marshall.

Great back and forth action...physical and fast both ways.

Hermantown 3-1 after 2 periods. Shots are now in favor of the Hawks 21-19.

2nd period not as physical but fast paced. No penalties in the game until the later part of the period and HT scored on the power play.

The Hawks led 2-0 after their typical hard work digging the puck out from behind the opponents goal and finding an open shooter in the slot area.

Marshall scored midway thru the period with some pressure in the HT zone creating a turnover with an open Hilltopper coming in all alone on the goaltender an stuffing it thru the 5 hole.

Final Hermantown 5-2 Shots were 32-28 Hermantown.

Marshall pulled within 3-2 a few minutes into the period and then had a couple PP opportunities but could not convert. The Hawks have an excellent PK. DM pulled their goalie during one delayed penalty and had good control of the puck for a spell.

Hermantown started really buzzing around in DM's zone and scored two goals within a minute time span with just under 4 minutes left in the game.

What a great game! I don't think they could have gotten another person through the door! The whole atmosphere of the excitement of the crowd and the student turnout both sides and the standing room only - you could tell it added to the intensity of the players. Honestly rivaled any metro game I've ever watched. Now, back to our regularly scheduled 12u programming....
