Hibbing 5, Greenway 4 OT

Post by greenway1969 »

What a fun game. Kudos to Coach Lawson and the rest of the coaching staff. They had Greenway employ a neutral zone trap that had Hibbing totally confused for two periods. Greenway's counter-attack was dangerous all night. What happened in the 3rd period? A kid named Perunovich. He'd carry the puck through the nuetral zone himself and create odd man situations. He always found the open skater and passed the puck right on the stick. This kid is something special. Greenway showed a lot of toughness as they came back from one goal deficits twice in the third period. The overtime goal was set up by Perunovich with a perfect pass to the forward who was all alone.

Seen Perunovich a few times this year and he truly is a special player... Good to see Greenway taking a step forward this year and sounds like we will see them back in the coming years!

Saw thew box score for this one and it looked like a great game. Nothing like 2 northern teams battling it out in sections.
I need ER vs BJ from 2002 State Quarterfinals. PM me.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see this one, but from listening to the radio stream it sounded like the Raiders played with a ton of energy and caught Hibbing off guard with the intensity they brought. I think the Bluejackets were guilty of looking ahead to Hermantown and they almost paid the price. What's even more impressive is that Greenway didn't have their best player out there.

Hats off to the Raiders for trumpeting their return to relevancy in 7A. They are a young team and will return the vast majority of their scoring. I hope Hibbing learned their lesson that this is a team is not to be taken lightly anymore.

Perunovich's passing is indeed a thing of beauty. He reminds me of former Bluejacket Adam Johnson (who is leading the USHL in scoring, by the way) in that he is able to wheel and weave his way end to end almost at will, but whereas Johnson was a shoot-first, net-seeking torpedo, Perunovich is just as likely to make a sweet dish on the tape of one of his teammates. I think this makes him an even more dangerous player as he really elevates those around him. Fun to watch.

Hopefully Saturday's games will be as tightly contested!
