Hibbing vs Brainerd

Post by howardst »

This could be a nice matchup. Can Perunovich work his magic again?

I think coaching will be a big factor.
If Brainerd can get their first line on the ice against a lesser line or weaker D they could score a lot.
Aus knows how to coach so they could score 6 or 7.
Hibbing cannot match that so they need to focus on stopping that power of Brainerd. Which means hibbings stud dman needs more focus on d and less on o.
So to win Hibbing needs to have more pp opportunities.

Unless Ullan has a really bad game, I have a hard time seeing Brainerd scoring 6 or 7. But I totally agree that Perunovich will have to be more focused on the defensive side for this game. Brainerd has the most firepower Hibbing has seen this season, so they will have to be ready to withstand some serious pressure.

I'm more concerned about Mick in goal for Brainerd. He was an absolute wall last year when Hibbing was peppering him with shots. Moorhead just got a taste of that in their last game.

I'm hoping Hibbing gets the Brainerd team that tied Alexandria and not the one that beat Moorhead. I read Brainerd had to forfeit their win over Jefferson. Does anyone know why?

Even with Brainerd's increased scoring, I think Hibbing will win, 5-4. :)

Hibbing has not and will not beat any above average team with depth. No blue colored glasses here. It's Scott perunovich and we go where he goes. Sorry. If he is not on the score sheet for 85% of the goals we loose.

And if the Oilers didn't have Gretzky...
And if the Patriots didn't have Brady...
And if the Bulls didn't have Jordan...

So what if Perunovich carries the team and is involved with 85% of the goals? He is on the ice 70% of the game, so I like those odds.

Lee averages 2.3 ppg, Bestul 2 ppg, DeBoom 1.44, and Radovich 1.11. Those are all solid numbers. Don't forget the goalie is also a big part of what this team is doing.

Hibbing is a Class A team. How many A teams could lose their top player and still be the same team?

How good is Hermantown without Aamodt?
How good is Breck without Ellingson?

Out of one side of your mouth you say that Hibbing has no depth and can't beat anybody above average, and then out of the other side you guarantee that Hibbing will beat Hermantown. So are you saying that Hermantown is a below average team? C'mon , man.

You say Hibbing hasn't beat any above average team with depth. EGF has been in the top ten all season, Hibbing beat them. Roseau would be a top 15 A team, Hibbing beat them, badly. And your precious Greenway team that you think is #5 or 6 in A? Hibbing beat them. And outshot them, despite your claim that Greenway "controlled" play for 2 periods.

Are you purposely trying to drive me insane? Is Hibbing not good enough to beat an above average team? Or are they so good that they will beat Hermantown? Which is it?

If you really believe Hermantown is a below average A team, then you are beyond hope.

Played the back up goalie too many periods. Mick didn't dress. First goalie played 1.5 periods, Last goalie played all the JV game and 1.5 periods of varsity. Realized the error later that weekend and turned it in to the MSHSL.

Nice win for Hibbing, shutting out a Brainerd team that has shown lots of offensive firepower. The Bluejackets took over in the 3rd period and only allowed one SOG to the Warriors.

Fun game, Perunovich sealed it with an empty netter, and Ullan was great in nets, although his teammates deserve some credit for not giving Brainerd a lot of good opportunities.
