Tic Tic Tic......Tic Tic Tic..... Bomb goes off
Well the bomb is ticking at ole Lakeville North only about a week away from the long term, loyal North players who grew up in the program with one goal to make the high school team are cut for the promised recruits. Then Tic..Tic..Tic and Boom the life long north parents and supporters go nuts.

I could care less about OP's grudge with LVN coaches, but this reply is so true in so many ways.PuckDaddy wrote:Not the only association going through that.....
Sad to see kids who work all through school to play their Jr or Sr year and are never get the chance. Kids, when shown faith by those coaches, would bust down walls to play for them. Coaches may be surprised by what they have in some of those kids.

It has already started. Some of the "promised recruits" are playing Bantams until high school tryouts. Other Bantam players have been dispersed (moved down) to make room for them. Players/Parents were not very happy.Gotothenetman wrote:Well the bomb is ticking at ole Lakeville North only about a week away from the long term, loyal North players who grew up in the program with one goal to make the high school team are cut for the promised recruits. Associations can move kids up and down until Dec. 31. So at least some of the Bantams will get moved up and be happy.Defensive Zone wrote:It has already started. Wasn't it said that these recruits didn't even sign up for Bantams, since they already were guaranteed a varsity spot?Defensive Zone wrote:It has already started. I believe 1 prize recruit did sign up for Bantams because his offer was not quite to the level of the other six blue chip recruits. Only so much cap room at North now that TP has no more interest.mulefarm wrote:Wasn't it said that these recruits didn't even sign up for Bantams, since they already were guaranteed a varsity spot?Defensive Zone wrote:It has already started. I know you have a Lakeville address, but don't you live in the Apple Valley School District? Do you get to choose, or do you have to open enroll your children at Lakeville?Gotothenetman wrote:Well the bomb is ticking at ole Lakeville North only about a week away from the long term, loyal North players who grew up in the program with one goal to make the high school team are cut for the promised recruits. Right on!
This is such a great statement. Not that kids who are legitimately enrolled at a school don't deserve to make a team they are trying out for, but that there are many kids who get passed by in favor of the new flavor in town and many of those kids passed over could be great players for a TEAM. Too much is placed on technical skill of an individual and not enough on team unity and cohesiveness of the whole. In particular hockey. Maybe in basketball a star could come in and turn a team into a champion. But in hockey, where you need BOTH stars and plumbers (see Gophers failures for now multiple years - too many 1st liners and no 3rd liners), team is almost always the determining factor in who wins. Locker room matters in hockey. Leadership. The value of kids who can provide some of these "intangibles" at the expense of the purely skill player should not be forgotten by coaches.

Re: Right on!
This is such a good point. Gophers hockey the last few years has struggled like you said because of the lack of blue collared guys. If you look at their last deep run in the NCAA tournament (2014) they had guys like Serratore, Ambroz, Parenteau, Boyd etc. who bought into their 3rd and 4th line roles and absolutely ate pucks on the kill and did their job 5x5. Every high school team needs guys like this to buy in and revel in these roles to be successful.redtundra wrote:But in hockey, where you need BOTH stars and plumbers (see Gophers failures for now multiple years - too many 1st liners and no 3rd liners), team is almost always the determining factor in who wins. I wished I lived in Lakeville then my kid could play for South since many of the South Kids get recruited by North and South does not bring any in there might be a spot for my kid!NORTHWOODS HOCKEY wrote:I know you have a Lakeville address, but don't you live in the Apple Valley School District? Re: Right on!
Absolutely. Think of the many teams with top end talent that have not lived up to their perceived potential in recent years. Not only does the 'star' mentality hurt the team, it often ends up hurting SOME of the so called star players later when they do not really know how to BE part of a team effort. Too many of them develop bad habits young and are allowed to keep them due to their skill set in one area. Everybody pays with a bunch of individuals and no team mentality.bardown27 wrote:This is such a good point. 3 of the 4 Rosemount kids with bantam eligibility did not tryout for Bantams at North! So, either they were guaranteed a spot on JV/ Varsity or plan on playing Jr Gold..

But how much of it is a coaches fault versus how much of it is the parents fault for not even wanting to think of their Johnny NHL being on a (oh, the horror !) third or fourth line ?
I guess one (not me) could argue still the coaches fault for not standing up, etc.
But when parents *are* this way, and their kids feel this way because of that,................boom.
Collision time with the coach.
