Delano wins 5-2; shots were 40-17 Breck.
This was really a tale of two games, though. Breck totally dominated the first period but couldn't find the back of the net, while Delano struggled mightily to break out and were basically kept in it by strong goaltending. But the Tigers hung in there, got a 5-on-3 early in the 2nd, and popped the first one just after the first penalty expired. They never lost that lead, and the Keranen-Halonen-Meyers line slowly took over and scored all 5 Delano goals.
For long stretches early in the game, Heidemann-Machlitt-Breitenfeldt looked like the best line out there for either team. Dalton Weigel is a fine defenseman for Breck but played an awful lot in this one, and his error led to the 2nd Delano goal late in the 2nd. The Mustangs have better depth, but need to get the offense rolling early and hang in there if things start to go south; it seems like the wheels have fallen off a bit in both their games so far.
For Delano, it's obviously a big statement win in 2A, but the score was more impressive than their play. If Breck pops one or two early, this is a totally different game. The top line is supremely skilled, the goaltending was sharp, and if some of the younger players come along, they may have some depth yet. But there's work to do, especially on defense. They looked like a good Class A team, but not really like someone who should have Hermantown looking over their shoulders at this point.

It was a good early season game. I was able to watch the game online. Delano has an extremely talented first line, they move the puck really well in the offensive zone. As I mentioned in the first sentence, "it was a good early season game." Both teams have a long way to go until section playoffs and a lot can change.
Delano got outshot 40-16 in the game and at times struggled to break the puck out of the offensive zone. Delano weathered the storm in the first period and as Karl mentioned, had Breck popped 1 or 2 goals in early, it would have been a different game. Delano needs to develop some skills players on the back end for me to give them a legitimate nod as state tournament/title contenders. I think that they have a really good chance of finally unseating Breck from Section 2A supremacy, but it's hard for me put them ahead of Hermantown
For Breck, early on, it's appears that they still need to fill some voids on offense, due to graduation. They didn't look as polished as some of the Breck teams that I have seen in the past. Coach Larson is a good coach, he will coach them up as the season progresses. If they can get 3 lines playing consistently for the duration of the game, they will retain the Section 2A title, but they will be tested.
