East 2, Bemidji 1, final; shots 23-15.
I complained after watching low-scoring games last weekend, but this was a genuinely enjoyable one to watch. It dragged a little in the 2nd when East had to kill off a major and the game lost some flow after that, but otherwise, a nice, tightly played game between two strong defensive teams in search of some offensive juice. Toward the end of the second I was wondering if we were in for a repeat of the WBL game, as Fitzgerald made some big saves and East missed a few other point-blank chances, but East came out and played a very strong 3rd, building from the back with solid breakouts throughout the period. They popped two and looked sharp until taking a penalty with just under 2 to go, and Bemidji had one nice wide-open look that they missed. Otherwise, a quality nice of hockey between two tough, physical teams. Nice win for East as they continue their...umm..."defensive focus" at the start of the year, and the Jacks will be a tough out when Pollock is back and they have a little more firepower up front.

EP clomped Jefferson 8-1 tonight. 3 PPGs for EP. Jefferson couldn't stay out of the box and EP capitalized.
Leivermann had 2 goals and 2 assists, Mittelstadt had 4 assists, Benson with 2 goals and an assist, and Sullivan with 2 goals.
Mittelstadt alternated between forward and defense on the PP and didn't come off of the ice. It'll be interesting to see if that continues next weekend. He had one rush where he blew through the neutral zone, the dman committed to takeaway the pass, he unleashed a huge wrister that hit both pipes. It might have went in but it was so quick nobody really saw what 2nd pipe it hit. He drew lots of attention from Jefferson and drew penalties. Dynamic as always.
EP played 4 lines in the 3rd with the 3rd and 4th on the PP in the back half of the period. One more tune up before the fun next week.

Yes, he played. A bit rusty at the start, but the top line was looking more fluid by the end, and he popped in the GWG in the 3rd.GPGT wrote:Thanks for the review .. Was Mageau back in yet?karl(east) wrote:East 2, Bemidji 1, final; shots 23-15.
