I'm reasonably confident it stands at 16-9 all-time:east hockey wrote:Their playoff history (going back to the 1973-74 season, which is all I have) is surprisingly close. East leads 12-9.

Including regular season I've got 87-43-6, though that's almost certainly missing some early years. A lot of the dominance was early, as Cloquet didn't beat East once until sometime in the 70s, as far as I can tell.
As for the present, East *should* win this game. They haven't been playing incredibly well of late, but they have shown what they can do against Cloquet, and as long as they can forecheck the way they did in the first two meetings and avoid doing stupid things in their own end, they'll generate plenty of chances. The Jacks just need to try to stick around and play off of emotion, and hope that emotion opens up the disciplined East system.

Mite D; Quote reminds me of the Otters vs Flyers game Tues eve. You never knoin a rivalry game. Depends on who scores more goals.Mite-dad wrote:I streamed the DE at Cloquet game a couple weeks ago. I'd be surprised if Cloquet pulled off the upset. DE seemed to control play. But you never know in a rivalry game in the playoffs.

Colquet Carlton wouldn't dare beat Randolph on Saturday. That wasn't part of the agreement.
Only halfway being a smart aleck here, also want honest answers. Assuming I won't get any, but I'll still ask out of curiosity, a week and a few games played after seedings were released and set, how many Duluth backers are standing pat that Esko is the better, higher caliber team over the 4th seed, and feel that they have the tougher draw compared to the #1 seed on Saturday.

Interesting question. My answer, being the only CEC homer on this forum. And a Duluth East respect guy. My thought is that it's not about the higher caliber better team regarding overall season that routinely gets the higher seed. It's about winning or loosing head to head later in the schedule to a team with history and talent. Late season trends, etc. I'm not sure what East fan has though.Bayside Tigers wrote:Colquet Carlton wouldn't dare beat Randolph on Saturday. That wasn't part of the agreement.

I don't think anyone from East has ever tried to claim that Cloquet is a better team than Rapids. But the results on the ice were what they were, and GR is not entitled to a higher seed because of the talent they have. The regular season matters.Bayside Tigers wrote:Colquet Carlton wouldn't dare beat Randolph on Saturday. That wasn't part of the agreement.

Now, you can argue that the criteria they use to seed aren't the right ones, and that overall results should matter more than in-section record, but these are the criteria the 7AA coaches have pretty much always used. A bunch of us (not just wishful East fans) predicted this would happen if GR lost to CEC in that last meeting, and sure enough, they did and it did.
And, to address the "northern conspiracy" stuff...CEC and GR couldn't vote for themselves, leaving 2 northern teams and 5 southern teams to decide the seeds there. At least 2 or 3 of the southern coaches put CEC ahead of GR.
I'm not sure I understand how to follow your logic on this one.karl(east) wrote:And, to address the "northern conspiracy" stuff...CEC and GR couldn't vote for themselves, leaving 2 northern teams and 5 southern teams to decide the seeds there. ER votes - 1) DE, 2) GR, 3) CEC
Randolph votes - 1) ER, 2) CEC, 3) GR
Esse votes - 1) ER, 2) DE, 3) GR
Klatt votes - 1) ER, 2) DE, 3 CEC
DM votes - 1) ER, 2) DE, 3)CEC, 4) GR
You can't vote for yourself, but you do vote for everybody else. So there are 8 votes for every team. Every coach can sway the results with their vote. Randolph and Esse can sway the overall vote by putting GR at #3 rather than #2 on their submissions. They can sway it even more by putting DM ahead of GR, making GR now a #4 on their votes.
The only stream for this game will be audio.Slammer wrote:Is there a stream for this game?

I guess if I really have to drudge up the entire ballot to put this to bed, we can do it. I have seen the final vote totals (though not who voted for who), and can assure you that no one put DM ahead of GR.BodyShots wrote:I'm not sure I understand how to follow your logic on this one.karl(east) wrote:And, to address the "northern conspiracy" stuff...CEC and GR couldn't vote for themselves, leaving 2 northern teams and 5 southern teams to decide the seeds there. GR received 20 points. They had one 2nd place vote (ER, presumably), 4 3rd place votes (DE, CEC, 2 others), and 3 4th place votes. The highest and lowest are tossed, so 3+3+3+3+4+4=20.
CEC received 19 points. They had one second place vote (DE), 5 3rd place votes (GR, ER, 3 others), and 2 4th place votes. The 2 and a 4 are tossed, leaving us with 3+3+3+3+3+4=19.
Do the math. At least 2 southern teams had CEC #3 and GR #4. Possibly a 3rd; I'm not sure how Marshall voted.
To throw perhaps more fuel on the fire: after the first ballot, this was flipped. A southern team that will remain anonymous switched its vote between the first and second rounds. East was as surprised as anyone when the final results came out.
So Rapids finished 3rd in the first vote 20 to CEC's 19. And the second vote this switched to 20 CEC and 19 Rapids? I see..I see....karl(east) wrote:I guess if I really have to drudge up the entire ballot to put this to bed, we can do it. KarlEast.....I'm a dumb Pollack so don't mind me. Our teams lock horns on Saturday. I'd much rather meet your boys in the final, but it is what it is. Maybe in the next 4-6 years we will meet your boys in the final.
Leads one to wonder why a second vote was needed.karl(east) wrote:To throw perhaps more fuel on the fire: after the first ballot, this was flipped. Now the real question. Does anybody have film of this southern coach and Randolph going to the bathroom together between votes

They always vote twice. That's the routine: everyone votes without discussion, then everyone views the results and can make cases from there, and then they vote again.BodyShots wrote:Leads one to wonder why a second vote was needed.karl(east) wrote:To throw perhaps more fuel on the fire: after the first ballot, this was flipped. And the voting wasn't in person this year--thanks a lot, Marshall, for scheduling a game that Wednesday night--so Randolph couldn't have taken someone to the Tobies bathroom. Though I suppose he is retired from his day job now, so he had all day to hunt down the poor, innocent coach.

Though come to think of it, Esse did once challenge Randolph to a fight in the parking lot after a game. Perhaps he sent his lumberjack minions down to impose his will.
