Was debating whether or not to start this thread, but it might be the only one I start this season so ....
The matchups for this tourney are, apparently:
Fargo Davies - Breck 6 pm
Pine City Area - Marshall following
Tomorrow
Losers matchup - 2 pm
Winners matchup - following
I was hoping that Marshall would play Breck in the first game, but it doesn't look like it based upon MN Hockey Hub schedule.
Anyway, going to try to go to tonight's games in person.
Both days' games also will be broadcast on the Marshall sports youtube channel: http://marshsports.com/live-stream/

Fargo Davies beat Breck 5-1 in the first game. Davies plays very aggressively and had a good forecheck. I suspect they would be a AA school based upon enrollment if in Minnesota. Breck had 2 or 3 freshmen who impressed which bodes well for them down the road (down the ice?).
Second game had Pine City Area leading Marshall 2-0 when I left at the end of 2 periods. Shots were about even, but PCA has a good #1 line and a nice shot stopper in net.
Following on prior seasons, Marshall continues to play dumb hockey at times. PCA player was holding a Marshall player down in front of the net during a scramble. Ref blows whistle for a PCA holding penalty. Marshall player elbows the offending player in the face AFTER the whistle to make it coincidental minors. Dumb.

Fargo Davies (ND) leads Marshall 7-0 at the end of first period.
Shots on goal: FD 28-0 Marshall
Hahahaha ... blowout in progress. I knew that FD would win this but come on, this is embarrassing.
I suggest that the tournament organizers think strongly about whom to invite next season. For a young program to improve, they need to play +1 competition, not +10. That means teams just a bit better than them, not teams so much better (bigger, stronger, faster, etc.).
Given that in Minnesota A hockey, the Sections that never go seeded in the state tourney are 1, 3, and 5, they should probably invite one from each plus a Metro school and leave this Fargo Davies alone. Pine City Area was a nice addition these past two years, and they come from Section 5. Marshall is Section 3, so maybe La Crescent next year (Section 1)? For Metro schools give invites to North or South St. Paul, or Minnehaha Academy. I liked the addition of Breck this year also.
