Edina vs Wayzata
One to keep an eye from the standpoint of how the Wayzata-Tonka game ended last week with kids leaving the ice, a ref being injured, and punches being thrown. Yes, punches were thrown even if it just led to game misconducts.
Could get chippy early.

After watching Wayzata play Minnetonka, I hope it is running time for Edina.kniven wrote:I hope Wayzata pounds themLetMeEatCake wrote:Edina vs Wayzata

Edina team a bunch of girls. Pound them and they will fold like little girls. I can’t stand the whole Edina scene.

Interesting observation. While Hornets are small, they don't play soft at all this year.kniven wrote:Edina team a bunch of girls. Pound them and they will fold like little girls. I can’t stand the whole Edina scene.
Wayzata will most likely play very physical hockey. They seem to enjoy it and it provides their only chance.
Be kind. Rewind.

A great moment for me would to see Duluth East and Edina in the final. And watch and enjoy Duluth tossing and throwing the little girl hornets around the ice. #218hockey= big boy hockey
Re: Games Thursday 2-1-18
That’s a diplomatic response to kniven’s childish remarks. Wayzata has had Edina’s number the past few years, particularly come playoff time. And their formula certainly has involved plenty of physical play. That said, this Edina team is so fast and skilled that I am not sure the Trojans can even keep up to impose their physical presence.O-townClown wrote:Interesting observation. I am with Elliott on this one. While I generally don’t root for Edina, every time I watch a Wayzata play it feels like they set the game of hockey back by 50 years. Which is strange given the number of skilled players coming through their program.

I grew up in the 70s on the Iron Range and witnessed many thrilling hockey moments. Very lucky to be in love with hockey, playing the sport and having at least 2 teams from the IRC as viable State title contenders every year. The entire Range felt the pride their brethren of IFalls, Hibbing or Rapids felt when their team won it all. Unless you were from Coleraine or Bovey or Taconite and Rapids took home the trophy. That was like death. Yet the entire Range soured on the whole process when a Region 7 team or Backdoor winner lost. Especially if the team lost in the Quarters or Semis at State. Then we had to either watch a cake-eater Cities team play another cake-eater Cities team - or start playing baseball, often in the snow, the day after the Region 7 or Backdoor winner lost.
I also grew up 'hating' every team south of a line from Duluth to Moorhead. That's what I was taught as a kid on the Range. By my mother. When mom made it a point to detest something - a rare event - I paid heed. And the team she disliked the most was Edina because they had this and they had that and we essentially had jack. Which was untrue because we had awesome hockey arenas and free ice everywhere and coaches that became legends. But mom and thousands of others ignored this obvious fact because they knew the Cities teams were eventually going to take over. They were saddened by what was happening and were merely expressing their sadness and frustration as hatred.
I still don't like Cities teams but I tend to lump them all in the Edina bin. When Edina, Eden Prairie, Jefferson, Hill, etc. win It, I grumble and moan and refuse to read the story about it in the paper. But though it ruins a few days for me, I still understand that the game is played by kids. And the kids have families that are doing their best to get the kids to the rink on time. And the kids are doing their best to be their best on the ice. And people in love with hockey and their kids are watching these kids be their best on the ice. That's all I need to know to show some respect to the kids. No matter where they grow up.

I would imagine this is also why a number of skilled Wayzata youth players in recent years have chosen not to come through their program.I am with Elliott on this one. Best post I've ever read on this forum, and that's saying a lot. Great perspective. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.mnmouth wrote:Knivsy -

That is off the wall even for you. Their kids compete hard, always have.kniven wrote:Edina team a bunch of girls. Pound them and they will fold like little girls. I can’t stand the whole Edina scene.
As a resident of Edina, and that is it, I have to say this team can flat out play. In order to hit them to make them fold you are going to need to catch them. We all hate on Edina, but you have to admit, that is a great program with lots of numbers to support and feed the surrounding private schools.
So when they do lose, the State of Hockey wins. But I am not counting on it just yet.....

Things have gone a bit off topic?
Anyway, im reiterating my preseason prediction that Hounds and Hornets will meet in the championship game in St. Paul, a long overdue rematch of the 1997 championship game where Edina won 1-0 on a goal by Dan Carlson, I was at that one.
When Deast came down to play Tonka, I told several long time friend Hound parents that I would next see them in St. Paul, so I cant be wrong can I?
(ps, grandsons CC squirt team just beat Spehar twice in a row!)
