Minnetonka from the mid-late 2000’s and into early 2010’s would be a great candidate for dynasties that could have been. The number of future D1 and NHLers is crazy. Got close to a title in 2010. What happed to the 2008 team though? Jake Gardiner, Max Gardiner, Holl, Raiola, Coatta, Prochno? I suppose 4 of them were sophomores but that’s a lot of talent to not even make state.

I agree and cannot believe that we forgot them. Though I would almost think that it was a failed "run" even though it stretched for 5 years from 2008 (Jake's senior year) to 2013 (Tommy Vannelli's last year) because EP at that time made it to state more out of that section.

Great show , the dynasty segment triggered a lot of memories going all the way back to the 60s

Hill Murray is almost a past and continuing “dynasty” with its own unique definition. Great staying power.....theyve been relevant at the top of the section and upper ranked state level pretty consistently for 6 decades, and ongoing ( this year a bit of a hiccup)

I would maybe consider Hill like Edina with maintaining ongoing excellence but if they had one era where they were very very good it was from 83-88

Consider that the 2010 Minnetonka team was so deep and talented that then sophomore Steve Johnson, current gopher senior, did not show up rostered on the State tournament team , which went on to that great multi OT semi final game against , guess who , Hill Murray. One of the all time thrillers.

Yes but it is hard to call that a dynasty after all the drama that happened the year prior at Hill-Murray. Great game in 2010 though I agree.

Tonka made either the Section 6 finals (which included Edina and the occasionally strong Richfield & Armstrong) or the state tournament 8 years in a row from '83-'91 but never reached a state final. Those Saturday afternoon section finals that were often paired with a Kennedy/Jefferson game from Section 5 in front of a packed Met Center were epic. That first, "run that never was" included a 4 OT loss to Jefferson Thursday night/Friday morning in during the State Tournament despite out-shooting the Jags 50-24. The '07-'08 and '11-'12 teams were also stacked with talent but alas will go down with their more recent, "run that never was".

You probably picked the best Pioneer stretch, in the 80s, including a perfect undefeated season which I recall took a decade to match by the Jags, right?

If you define dynasty for lasting consistency , relevance and upper rankings, and state tourney appearances , I agree Hill would probably be right up there with Edina in modern era excellence.

Would be interesting to go back 50 modern era years and average out all the weekly LPH hockey rankings. Edina , Jags, Deast, Hill, GR the top 5? A small project for Karl......

(i know Lee does something similar, but not based on coaches rankings?)

Also, thinking about it some more, Moorhead would belong somewhere in this discussion.

Slap Shot --> I hail from the mid 80s as well. The Tonka teams from 83-91 were the ultimate "failed dynasty" --- so much talent, only a couple trips to Civic Center. The Met Center held 15K people. That Section Final Saturday was like no other place in time. Section 5 and 6 (Kennedy/Jefferson and Edina/Tonka) would come close to selling out.
