Remaining AA Teams Ranked for State Seeding

Post by karl(east) »

As usual, here are all of the remaining teams, ranked for state seeding purposes:

1. Minnetonka
2. Edina
3. St. Thomas Academy
-Worth noting that LPH has DE at #3, so these two could flip if they make it
4. Duluth East
5. Holy Family
-Could have an argument for jumping ahead of East if they beat Tonka, but probably not STA given the head-to-head result
6. White Bear Lake
-Currently in position for the 5-seed, and will rise with upsets in 3AA, 6AA, or 7AA
7. Moorhead
-Currently would be unseeded, but would be the first to climb in with upsets anywhere other than 2AA and maybe 6AA
8. Wayzata
-Would probably leapfrog Moorhead in the pecking order if they knock off the Hornets
9. Andover
-Don't think they can climb over Moorhead given the head-to-head result, but a second upset in addition to East losing could get them to a seed
10. Centennial
-Very long odds at a State seed for the 5AA champ
11. Eastview
-Beating STA could maybe get them into the seeding conversation, but probably won't be ahead of Moorhead
12. Duluth Marshall
13. Elk River
14. Lakeville North
-No chance for a 1AA seed
15. St. Michael-Albertville
16. Hill-Murray
17. Lakeville South
18. Maple Grove
19. Stillwater
20. Rochester Century
21. Tartan
22. Owatonna

That 3/4 flip of STa and East is critical

Makes difference between East being in Edina semi bracket
Vs being in Tonka semi bracket

East is the most feared team in semis by both Edina and Tonka , even though STa played Tonka close twice . Hounds have a net winning record in the state tournament against Edina, close match in skill and depth, and size and physical style advantage . And they already beat Tonka this year.

Also , whoever gets the 4 seed will have the tougher qtrfinal
against WBL, who took Edina to OT and who tied East

All true above WM, with the caveats that...DE beat Tonka without Luedtke playing for Tonka, which is significant 😉👍 & DE does not (quite) match Edina’s speed (when Hornets are fully healthy) 😊

If these 4’teams advance to semifinals Friday, standing in line for a ticket Friday around 4pm will be a free for all & the scalpers will make a nice pile of straight cash 💰Homeboy! 😉😎

So IF both of these teams should make it then it's a given that #2 Edina would play at 11AM and #1 Minnetonka at 6PM?

(edit to show Tonka at #1)

Not a given, per Karl's rankings, coaches may (MAY) see things different than Karl.

All good points. I'd just add that I don't think Moorhead (if they make it) will be an easy out. Despite some questionable results, they have some talent to disrupt in the QF (and they tend to thrive in St. Paul when they make it - I don't know if they have ever gotten blown out in the Quarters, and have certainly been part of a few upsets in Quarters they weren't supposed to win). 1AA will be the draw that the top 3 are hoping for. And of course if WBL falters in their own section, 4AA will be a weak rep a state also.

Moorhead should hope for Tonka or STA, probably STA, in the qtrfinal, and that Leonard’s experience at X results in best game of his career! That along with their Big 3 senior scorers picking their way thru opposing D could get Spuds to Friday night

Right, one would assume this would be how it is, especially since Tonka is #1 in LPH. But there's an outside chance that Edina could be #1 if the coaches look at things like PS2, or think Edina should be #1 by virtue of being Edina (as seemed to happen with EP 2 years ago).

We have unusual situation in that at least 6 LPH top 20 teams have now been eliminated and six are left that aren’t even top 20 . If I’m accurate at this time of night , a real brain teaser. Only 10 days out from St Paul , This has to be a first ?

Can't argue this too much, but I could also see STA getting the nod at 3 over DE but it is truly a coin flip in my eyes.
I can have my cake and eat it too.

I still think there’s a chance Edina gets the #1 seed. I suspect another thing too, DE does not want to be on the same side of the Bracket as Edina...I think Karl (might even confess) that truth be told...DE is spoiling to play Edina in the FINAL (not Friday night) 😉😲
