Assuming the favorites win, I would guess the seeding to be as follows.elliott70 wrote:After tonight we will have all but one.

2. Orono or Breck
3. Litchfield
4. Mahtomedi or Simley
5. Monticello or North Branch
6. St Cloud Cathedral or Alexandria
7. Hermantown
8. East Grand Forks or Thief River Falls

1. Hermantown
2. Mahtomedi
3. Cathedral
4. Orono
5. EGF
Alex is definitely next in line for a seed, but things become fuzzy after that. The teams that have essentially no chance to be seeded are Mankato East, Breck, and LDC (that said, LDC is a wildcard and not a great QF matchup). Of the remaining teams, I would rank them as Simley, TRF, and the Section 5 winner, in that order. LPH has Monticello one spot ahead of Simley, and North Branch ahead of TRF, but I am going to give more weight to coming out of a tougher section than posting gaudy records against weaker competition. So we could figure radically see something as crazy as:
1. Hermantown
2. Alexandria
3. Simley
4. TRF
5. Monticello or North Branch
It has been that kind of year in Class A, so it certainly isn’t outside the realm of possibility!

Class A seeding got interesting with SCC and EGF both going down tonight.
1. Hermantown
2. Mahtomedi (if they win)
3. Orono
4. Alexandria
5. A debate
It comes down to TRF and Monticello. LPH does have the Moose at #13 and TRF at #19. TRF will probably get some bonus points for upsetting EGF, and is also well ahead of the Moose in PS2. Rightly or wrongly, 8A may also get more cred than 5A here. It'll be interesting to see which way they go.
If Simley wins 4A, that probably slides Orono and Alexandria up a spot each, puts Simley at #4, and opens the same debate for #5.
Interesting field, though I thought SCC probably had the best shot of anyone at the Hawks talent-wise, and while this EGF team wasn't on par with the ones that beat Hermantown, they'd at least done it before. I doubt Hermantown is complaining about either of those results.

The Simley boys are on a mission, Mahtomedi beware, the last time Simley made the Class A tournament in 2003 they beat a highly ranked Mahtomedi team in the section final and went on to play in the Championship game against Warroad and T.J. Oshie, losing a close game.
It's not the Best players, it's the Right players! HB

Looks like LDC actually had a pretty easy time with Monticello when they played a couple weeks ago? LDC also took it to Luverne a team that had Cathedral on the ropes at one point leading that game 4 - 1. LDC also had a win over Delano and two close matches with Mound and a tie with New Prague. LDC also beat Hutch twice, a team that beat Orono. They did get smoked my Orono the first time and then got a little better the 2nd game but still a lopsided loss. Looks like you just don't know this year in class A other than Hermantown.karl(east) wrote:Class A seeding got interesting with SCC and EGF both going down tonight.

While I agree with your general premise that LDC probably should be considered for the #5 seed, I don’t believe they actually will have a shot at it. Even though LDC played a reasonably strong schedule, they are a team barely above.500 coming out of a weaker section, and that preconception is hard to overcome. Also, their only actual wins of consequence were Delano, Monticello, and Luverne (with whom they split). The close losses and transitive property gymnastics you cited really don’t matter. As you stated, LDC did beat Hutch twice, but Orono took the Dragons behind the woodshed twice. The fact that Hutch beat Orono clearly didn’t translate to LDC being better than the Spartans.hawkeyguy2 wrote:Looks like LDC actually had a pretty easy time with Monticello when they played a couple weeks ago? In the end, being seeded fifth or being unseeded really shouldn’t matter much given the parity of this field. The only major factor is to avoid Hermantown in the quarters. Everyone else is vulnerable to some extent.

Well you said "it comes down between Thief and Monticello" for #5 and Monticello has zero quality wins. Just because Monticello has a better record, it means nothing without a quality win. Monticello has actually played no one with a ranking so how does it come down to them or Thief??Stang5280 wrote:While I agree with your general premise that LDC probably should be considered for the #5 seed, I don’t believe they actually will have a shot at it. To clarify, that isn’t my personal stance, about Monticello being seeded ahead of LDC. Rather, I just don’t think it will really shake out that way and the vote would more likely favor TRF or Monticello. (Most likely the former based on their stronger section.)hawkeyguy2 wrote:Well you said "it comes down between Thief and Monticello" for #5 and Monticello has zero quality wins.
