7AA

Post by INDIANSFOREVER »

Well, I need to get my 7AA fix in July. Only about 3 months til talk will really get serious. Anyways, I would like to hear from fans of other teams in 7AA and get a inside scoop on each team. Who will your goalie be, who will be some standout players? What is your level of optimism for the upcoming season?

Okay, I'll start with my team. Goalie battle will be between Reider Jensen and Andy Hippikka. Jensen has more size, this will be a good battle in November. Rapids has a strong core of defensemen, which is why one of them, and I think the best, Jared Smith was moved to forward to help out all star Patrick White (USA under 17 select team) on the first line. Smith has excellent puck skills and I really look forward to seeing this play out. At this point I don't know a lot about the next two lines. I think it's a toss up to an extent. The bantam A team was strong last season, so possibly 2 good players move onto varsity on the 3rd line. Who knows at what rate they develop. With Rapids tough schedule I'm expecting a little above a .500 record this year. If a goalie can really play well, it will help tremendously. Obviously I get this info from a close contact to the team since I live so far away. Any Rapids fans want to add anything?

Okay, what about CEC, East, Brainerd, ER, Forest Lake and so on. CEC has I think, the best goalie possibly in the state, and a great coach. East lost Fairchild, but Randolph is still behind the bench which causes me to never doubt them. Forest Lake is a wild card every year, no one seems to know if they'll be a first round exit or a real contender from year to year.

Cloquet will have a strong team next year with ellingson in the net and steve m (have no clue how to spell his last name) riley roe tyler johnson jason syret kyle olson and so on. cloquet will also have a very strong team this year i think about 10-15 kids did justin mays 10 week wait training program and about 20 kids where in the wait room every day at the barn so c-e-c will be a pretty strong team next year.

Cloquet's scedual for next year is also looking tough with Edina, Elk River and Blaine.

Blaine is supposed to be tough? Here are Grand Rapids tough games outside 7AA: Moorhead, Apple Valley, Bloomington Jefferson, Edina, Elk River, Eden Prairie, and Roseau.

GR is hitting the weight room too.

Oooh-oooh. Can I play the game of my-team's-out-of-section-schedule-is-tougher-than-your-team's-out-of-section-schedule? Or maybe we can play, "I know we're 15-12, but we played a real tough schedule" game?

Majin

I am seriously asking is Blaine supposed to be tough. With someone of your level of intellect I would expect no less of a response. Maybe in my listing GR's opponents it''s my way to see if he'll list any other tough games CEC has this season. Typically GR plays a tougher schedule every year. And East plays a tad bit tougher schedule than GR every season. Just facts, nothing to argue about.

Blaine has Good Hockey

Post by Gray Mullet »

Blaine has quite steadily produced good hockey clubs however they are facing the same issues that Bloomington Jefferson is and that is decling enrollment (due to an aging population). Also they border the big burgeoning suburb (with 20/30 something growing families) who are fielding a pile of kids for sports programs. I see "indians" has his undies in a bunch early this season.

Gray Mullet - just wanted to let you know that you might have been a little misinformed about Blaine's aging population; actually they are still ranked in the top five in new homes construction and still only 50% developed. There association was affected somewhat with the Andover split and lost 100+ players but with new development they are growing significantly. The youth program is fielding a number of competitive teams and I believe the high school team finished with a 17-8 record last season in a pretty competitive conference. I have seen Blaine a couple of times in their summer scrimmages and was pretty impressed - lots of fire power up front. The games I saw they beat Apple Valley 8-0 and Mounds View 8-1. Hard to say where they will be in the midst of their conference, but it seems they will have a team that is pretty competitive.

I always wondered about Blaine. The rolled to a title in what, 98? or 99? Then they disappeared.

I know Elk River is in 7AA, it was early in the morning, just not used to it. Like when I called the NFC north the NFC Central the first year of realignment.

Majin, are you seriously going to the side of the Spuds? The Spuds are a great team, but I didn't think you'd be so wishy washy just because you move.

Anover is between Blaine, Coon Rapids, and Anoka. One of the very large school districts in the north suburbs. Go Rapids

Lbow, you gotta do some research on East at least. You talk about the other 3 of the "big 4" in 7AA, and you don't say anything about East except the coach is back and you wouldn't want your kids to come up in that program. Might I add the program that Cade Fairchild came out of. Where is he again? Oh thats right, Ann Arbor for the U-17 National team, thats right, now I remember. Even though East lost him and a lot of talented seniors, they'll still have a good junior goalie in Ben Leis who had some varsity experience last year. Also many sophomores played last year in the State Tournement and got a lot of experience, therefore preparing them for this upcoming year and even the year after. East should have a solid team this year but as always has a pretty tough schedule including Wayzata, WBL, Cloquet, Moorhead, Apple Valley, and Centennial all in games 2-7. (Duluth Central, haha, being the first game). After the Schwan's Cup, East plays Elk River, Rochester Century, GR, Hastings, Osseo, Edina and thats about it for better than average teams. Unless of course you count the Wisconson State Champions, Superior . Should be a good year though.

Just wanted to throw a note in about the Superior Spartans. They have lost 2 of their probable leaders this year in Sislo (F) and Bukowski (D), both going to the USHL. If they make it to the state tournament in WI this year it will say alot about the state of hockey in the state next to THE STATE OF HOCKEY! Did anyone follow that?

He's just saying East doesn't have any proven talent now but with Randolph you can't count them out. I think most 7AA teams will be young this season and lots of questions. CEC you know the goaltending will be the best in the state probably, and Esse will make sure each player on that team knows his assignment for the utmost benefit of the team. Over the years you see certain trends. Two consistencies are Randolph and Esse having their teams play well in February.
