YHH 2019 Section Preview Podcast
This week in the podcast: no player interviews, no historical dive segments, only some brief news and nuggets at the start...just us running through every section live from the YHH Section 7 Studio (aka Karl's living room).
https://www.youthhockeyhub.com/news_article/show/996097
It is, um, kind of long, but we have a break between AA and A for your listening convenience.

Did you and Tony have to do rock, paper, scissors for top bunk?
Re: YHH 2019 Section Preview Podcast
Not sure if they were burning incense at Karls pad and Tony was tooting on something, but Tony’s statement that Anoka just snapped a 6 game losing streak to Armstrong/Cooper was laughable (at worst Anoka is 2-2 the past 4 years). Interesting fact, Champlin Park has lost to Anoka in sections 3 consecutive years, same as Blaine has lost to Maple Grove in sections for 3 consecutive years. I do expect both of those streaks to be broken in the next 11 days though

Anoka beat AC in 2016, 2015 & 2014...my son was on the Anoka team during those years & they only play once per year, since AC plays on the weak side of the NW Suburban conf

Hey 59,
What I said, or meant to say was, AC had won 6 in a row prior to having it snapped by Anoka.

That's what I heard. Nice thorough show.YouthHockeyHub wrote: ↑Mon Feb 18, 2019 2:23 pmHey 59,

Be kind. Rewind.
Re: YHH 2019 Section Preview Podcast
I only listened to the AA portion, since we all know a team capable of tying Tonka will waltz threw the A field

Re: YHH 2019 Section Preview Podcast
I just went back to listen again since I wasn’t sure I heard it correctly, but in picking SWC/Richfield to upset Delano, Tony said, “Delano hasn’t had a great finish to their season,” which is most definitely not the case. As I wrote in my rankings thread yesterday, Delano had won six in a row prior to tying Mound Westonka on Saturday, including a 3-2 win over Orono the prior night. The upset pick is not crazy, but if anything Delano had one of the better finishing stretches in Class A.

I will defend my thoughts on the SWC/Richfield upset pick that I made, I saw them on this past Tuesday and I was very impressed. I think this team is better than the 7 seed they received and with a goaltender that played in the Elite League it gives them a fighters chance.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 18, 2019 2:50 pm I just went back to listen again since I wasn’t sure I heard it correctly, but in picking SWC/Richfield to upset Delano, Tony said, “Delano hasn’t had a great finish to their season,” which is most definitely not the case. Agree. Haugen can steal a game, even if it was AA competition. He stopped about 50 SOGS in his first Elite League game.
Another in the long line of fantastic Tonka association goalies.

I love the fact that all the experts are picking Grand Rapids over CEC. We shall see, I guess.

Re: YHH 2019 Section Preview Podcast
Oh, I don’t disagree with that line of thinking at all, as Danny mentioned above also, but mostly wanted to set the record straight regarding Delano. Haugen will be the best player on the ice for either side. Both teams are what I would consider to be high variance, with potential for very good or bad performances. The 5 through 8 in 2A are pretty strong compared to most sections, and the top seeds aside from Orono aren’t great.

Re: YHH 2019 Section Preview Podcast
Full disclosure, I was wrong about Delano's finish. I am sorry for the mis-step. I stand by my pick SWCR...they are a very good team. Like I said...any of the 8 (including red-hot Delano) could make a run and I wouldn't be surprised.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 18, 2019 2:50 pm I just went back to listen again since I wasn’t sure I heard it correctly, but in picking SWC/Richfield to upset Delano, Tony said, “Delano hasn’t had a great finish to their season,” which is most definitely not the case. Re: YHH 2019 Section Preview Podcast
No problem, and I was probably being a bit harsh on you given that I did weekly top 20 Class A rankings and remember nearly every significant result from the season. Plus I pay extra attention to 2A with my alma mater in that section (technically I guess yours is too, but it’s not the same). I agree that 2A could turn into chaos, and SWCR making a run would be a nice story, so long as it isn’t at Breck’s expense!YouthHockeyHub wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 2:40 pmFull disclosure, I was wrong about Delano's finish.
