Class A State Seeding
My guess:
1. Totino/Maht winner
2. SCC
3. EGF
4. Greenway
5. Delano
6,7,8: Minn River, North Branch, New Ulm

What is a Green Wave anyway?

Delano beat Greenway so they may get the #4 seed. Doesn’t really matter if you’re a four or five seed at State.

True enough on both counts.greenwayraider wrote: ↑Thu Feb 28, 2019 10:53 pm Delano beat Greenway so they may get the #4 seed. Doesn’t really matter if you’re a four or five seed at State.
The only reason I put Greenway ahead is that most polls, (maybe all polls), have the Raiders ahead of Delano.
Also, EGF beat TG pretty handily early in the season, but, it is how you are playing now, and Greenway, is obviously playing very well.

What is a Green Wave anyway?

Re: Class A State Seeding
I think SCC would get the #1 seed over Totino should the Eagles beat Mahtomedi tonight.
TG would be 0-1 vs. the Class A field. The only game being a 7-2 early season loss to EGF. SCC is 3-0 vs. the Class A field, all against teams that appear likely be seeded (EGF, Greenway, Delano).
The only reason I would see Totino getting a #1 over SCC would be because of each team's head to head result against Mahtomedi. SCC lost to the Zephyrs 6-2, while Totino beat them 5-1. However, SCC outperformed Totino against the teams' three other common opponents based on score (EGF, Hermantown, Breck).

I agree with this: I would put SCC ahead of TG for the same reason you have outlined. I feel they have been the best A in the field for the full year. TG coming on strong in 2nd half, but with a 7-2 loss to EGF and SCC beating EGF by a bunch the following night, I think SCC gets the nod.

And, I believe both QRF and PageStat have SCC at #1
Re: Class A State Seeding
If the favorites were all to advance, which has definitely not been a given the past few years, there will be some fantastic semifinal matchups.
Re: Class A State Seeding
So, what are the odds for a game between the Greenwave and Greenway, and has that pairing ever occurred before?
Re: Class A State Seeding
Probably never happened at state...
1st trip for Greenway to Class A, I think.
EGF was never Class AA.
In pre 2 class, I don't think they were ever at a state tourney at the same time.

It'd be neat, considering the superintendent of Greenway came from EGF.

Greenway has been to state the first year of the two class system. They won it in 1992.

Re: Class A State Seeding
Technically, it wasn't Class A in 1992. They had the Tier I/Tier II thing going on for two years, with Tier II being sort of like the consolation tourney for teams seeded lower than eighth in each section. It was a little brutal.jdh wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 10:50 amGreenway has been to state the first year of the two class system. They won it in 1992.

Re: Class A State Seeding
Mahtomedi appears to have the much easier road. Cathedral must have been busy on the rosary when they were supposed to be arguing their case for #1.

Re: Class A State Seeding
One of the interesting things about the seedings is that Greenway lost to all three seeds above them rather handily. If Greenway can get by Delano the other teams may be in for a bit of a surprise. Greenway is a very different team mainly because Troumbly and Lawson are now on the same line. I still think Cathedral and Mahtomedi are half a step above Greenway and EGF so I expect to see them in the championship game. But then again so was Hermantown.
Re: Class A State Seeding
Brutal is right. It only lasted two years. I remember Bemidji had a down year, and getting bounced in the first round by Red Lakes Falls at the Nymore rink. Ouch.east hockey wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 10:53 amTechnically, it wasn't Class A in 1992. Re: Class A State Seeding
Puck was shot around the boards and Bemidji goalie Toby Kavelvog went behind the net to play it. It took a crazy bounce and ended up out front on a RLF player's stick and game over.

Re: Class A State Seeding
Tier II was for also-rans. If you weren't seeded in the top eight in whatever section you were in, you'd be in the section tournament for Tier II. This allowed a team such as Rosemount in 1992 which had ONE regular season win, to beat three other also-rans in their section and make it to State, where they played with seven other teams which weren't seeded in the Top 8 in their respective sections.StanleyCup55 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 11:59 pmWhy was tier 1 & tier 2 brutal?east hockey wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 10:53 amTechnically, it wasn't Class A in 1992. Maybe "brutal" wasn't strong enough.
