Herb Brooks err... Don Micheletti has resigned. Apparently he said "again" one too many times.

If true, what is the reasoning behind the resignation? It's pretty late in the ball game to find a quality replacement...

Maybe last year's bantam coach will coach his kid AGAIN.

Joshdog -

I think you nailed it. This is the rumor that has been around the arena for over a week. However, as of today he is still listed as the coach.

There are two people on this board that probably could clarify if this is correct: suckerpunch and the user ( I do not remember his user name) that stated Beggs was going to be a back up this year.

The resignation? Who knows but it seemed like parents in Rosemount liked the Bantam coach more than Don.

Well I feel bad for the guy if the rumor is true, but I sure won't miss seeing that ugly green jacket that he wears behind the bench!

It's not a rumor. Don's gone and his replacement has been named. Hate to see him go. He may not have been popular with the parents but he cleaned up a trashy program and made it competitive. This year's team would have been fun to watch and may have done some damage in the Lake conference. Yes I know we say that every year, but mix in a seasoned returning Varsity with some members from the VFW State Champs, stir it a bit and you've got an exciting group. As far as the A Bantam coach (Saintey), he has done a fabulous job with that group of kids all the way from Squirts through Bantams. And he wasn't very popular with the parents either regardles of what others on this board have said. Funny how a coach who demands discipline from his team rarely gets the respect he deserves and rarely is he popular with parents. But both men got great results. Neither will be coaching for the Irish HS or youth programs this year and it's a darn shame. Don and Rick thanks for the hard work and exciting games...you'll be missed. I will agree that the Green Jacket (and the Purple one) will not be missed!!!!!

I believe his replacement is Scott Macho. Don't know much about him. Apparently he's a teacher at the school and was a Coach at St. Olaf College the past few years. He was added to Don's staff this past summer. That's about all that's known in the community right now.

Micheletti

Post by shutout »

The replacement coach was actually the last straw for Micheletti. The school hired him and told Micheletti that he was going to be one of his assistants. Obviously being told who your assistants are is not a good situation, but like I said it was the LAST straw there were other issues that went on before that attributed to his resignation.

Rumor Mill

Post by Kodiak »

I don't believe that the hiring of Macho was the last straw for Don... Macho was hired a while ago wasn't he? Could that have been an issue? Yes. Could there be a hundred other things that could have done it? Absolutely. We can talk about it all we want on here, but until somebody hears directly from Don Micheletti as to what happened and why he resigned, we won't know, and it's irresponsible to say anything otherwise. As it is, Rosemount can still be a good team, and hopefully the BS play that plagued the program for so many years doesn't resurface.

As for the green jacket... I believe that comes with the job! RUMOR has it that Don resigned because the school wanted him to wear a little green hat and carry a pot of gold around with him when wearing the jacket!

Kodiak: The guy was hired as a teacher this summer, the asst. coaching issue is a recent thing. Before you take it upon yourself to tell us what is responsible or not, take a look at your "pot of gold" comment

Shutout

Post by Kodiak »

Lighten up pal... that was meant to be a little sarcastic humor there. All I'm saying is to stop the rumor mill, because it's pretty clear that nobody that has posted on this subject is on the "inside". Tell me if I'm wrong Shutout. Maybe you are on the inside and maybe you're not, but if you want everybody to take what you say as fact then tell us why you "know" so much about the situation. Unless you can validate anything, the rumors are just that... rumors! In other words, unless you know for sure and are willing to let us know who you are, start a phrase with "I think" or, "I have heard".

As far as what happened over the summer, well, I guess you and I have a different view as to what "recent" means. If the Rosemount AD had hired this guy as an assistant two weeks ago, then, yeah, I'd say your assumptions had some validity. But he was hired over the summer, so I don't believe that to be true. I don't know for sure, but I don't think that was the "straw" that you speak of.

Hey guys, speculate on. No one is talking, not even the "insiders". The Rosemount youth association had its tryouts last week and it was all the buzz. Coach Micheletti and all of his assistants (present/former?) were in attendance (watching their own kids or helping with evaluations) and they had nothing to say, other than to confirm the resignation.
Anyway their silence just reinforces that Don came in a class act, had the respect of his staff, players and anyone associated with the program and looks like he's going out the same way. The timing was unfortunate but the new guy has a good core group returning with some talented new blood added this year, and they all went through the summer program with the old crew. As always it will be an interesting year for Rosemount hockey.

Rosemount

The Rosemount team has always struggled with discipline. Every time a coach comes in and tries to rein in the knuckleheads, they start having a little success and then he ends up leaving before too long. Makes one wonder??......

I aways wonder how much pull Mr. C has at that high school. He is an administrator and his boys have been the worst of all when it comes to hockey behavior. There was always a lot of looking the other way. This will be little Andrew's last year though, so maybe after the last of them finally leave, the program can turn around.

Diskman, no need to pull that bs. The kid doesn't play for Rosemount anymore... your statement has no validity... none at all. Completely uncalled for in my opinion.

troubled?

Post by diskman »

No, it did not have anything to do with the resignation. It had to do with discipline which is what we were talking about. I have witnessed these boys and their tantrums for about 10 years now. They were kicked out of many a game. They have given the whole team a bad name for cheap shots and explosive temper for a long time. I was just saying that I hoped that this team can move on now and get some discipline. They have had the talent.

could you be specific about what talent you think this community has turned out in the last 20 years aside from Hansen and maybe an Eigner or two.

did he graduate fron rosemount? did his team advance to the state tournament? did they advance to the section finals his senior year? did they even make it out of the quarterfinals? Tom Preissing is a great player, but he is the exception - definitely not the norm coming from this community. By the way, please don't mention their Tier II state tourney appearance.
