Re: Class A rankings 2-21-2021
Class A is mess their are 6 very good teams from 3 Sections who will earn Seeds 1, 2 and 3 at state... (Hermantown/Denfeld (7A), Gentry/Mahtomedi (4A), EGF/Warroad (8A))
Then there is the mess of competitiveness with 8 teams in 2A and 6A which will be the 4 vs 5 seed at State (Orono, Delano, Breck, Armstrong) vs (LF, FF, Sartell, Alex)...
Then there is the 6 teams in the 3 Unseeded Sections (1A Mankato East/Dodge County), (3A LDC/Hutch), (5A Monticello/Chisago Lakes)

Re: Class A rankings 2-21-2021
Sorry these are late. I didn't get as early of a start as I would have preferred, and I think we can all agree that trying to make semblance of anything past about #8 is an exercise in futility. If nothing else, hopefully the write ups are at least entertaining.
1. Hermantown (11-0-0) [LW 1]
W 6-3 vs Denfeld
The Hawks looked both dominant and vulnerable at times against their only real roadblock within 7A. Hermantown spent long stretches camped out in the offensive zone, pummeling the net with 56 shots, yet needed two goals in the final two minutes to create comfortable distance from Denfeld. Still, the fact that the Hunters needed to play well to even hang around is encouraging for future meetings. Conveniently, Hermantown runs it back again with the Hunters following a nine day break.
Next: Thu @ Denfeld, Sat vs Greenway
2. Gentry Academy (10-0-0) [LW 2]
W 7-0 @ Breck, W 8-1 @ Owatonna
The Stars continued to romp, racking up a pair of seven-goal victories. Gentry has put every opponent but one into running time, with Blake (a 6-1 win) being the only exception. At this point Gentry is basically a 1B to Hermantown's 1A, with the Hawks having the slight edge due to experience. This team is extremely deep and spreads around the scoring love, with 12 players in double digits, and leading scorer Sajevic at only 25 points. Expect more prodigious scoring totals this week, and most likely through the end of the regular season for that matter.
Next: Thu vs SPA, Sat vs Minneapolis
3. East Grand Forks (6-5-0) [LW 3]
W 9-0 vs Detroit Lakes
Not much to see here as the Green Wave swamped the Lakers in their only action of the week. Trey Ausmus recorded a hat trick, and the lower lines joined the scoring fun later in the game. EGF has another layup before the slate turns nasty, kicking off with another rumble against Roseau, whom they recently defeated in extra time.
Next: Tue @ Crookston, Thu @ Roseau
4. Mahtomedi (6-4-1) [LW 5]
L 2-3 (OT) @ StMA, T 2-2 @ STA
The Zephyrs played plenty of bonus hockey this past week (16:20 to be exact), but the two overtime games felt very different. On Tuesday, Mahtomedi jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but was outplayed the remainder of the way by an inferior team on paper. Against STA, the Zephyrs played perhaps their most complete game of the season, holding down a talented offense and receiving secondary scoring, something that had been lacking. Interestingly, Dardis stopped a penalty shot in both games. The sledding doesn't get any easier this week with two more difficult AA foes.
Next: Thu @ Eden Prairie, Sat vs Hastings
5. Warroad (6-3-2) [LW 4]
L 3-4 (OT) vs Roseau, W 10-1 vs Crookston
The Warriors' skid continues, as they are 2-3-2 in their last seven contests, with the only triumphs coming over lowly Lake of the Woods and Crookston. Granted, the opposition has been strong, and the three losses were all by one goal (two in overtime), but the offense has dried up against good teams and this does not look like the same group who destroyed Roseau a few weeks ago. That has been the high point of the season so far, unfortunately. Warroad next travels "down south" to face two IRC foes, and will have to be at the top of their game to hang with Rapids.
Next: Fri @ Virginia, Sat @ Grand Rapids
6. Duluth Denfeld (4-1-1) [LW 6]
L 3-6 @ Hermantown, W 7-1 vs Int'l Falls
The Hunters pushed Hermantown to the brink, drawing within 4-3 with seven minutes left before the Hawks added late insurance. The shot differential was huge, so we'll see if this performance was real soon enough in the rematch. Simon Davidson scored twice against Hermantown, and racked up seven points on the week after Denfeld took out their frustrations on the Broncos. They must tame another 7A foe prior to round two with the Hawks, however.
Next: Tue vs Hibbing, Thu vs Hermantown
7. Little Falls (8-1-1) [LW 8]
W 10-1 vs Prairie Centre, W 3-1 @ Sartell
The Flyers absolutely pelted opposing nets with pucks this past week, with 66 and 56 shots on goal in their two tilts. The Sartell score could have been lopsided had they not run into a hot goalie. That performance keeps them just ahead of surging Fergus Falls. Matt Filippi has emerged as the primary scoring threat, with five goals on the week and 14 for the season. Little Falls should coast into the sectional scrap with Alex.
Next: Tue vs Wadena, Thu @ Alexandria
8. Fergus Falls (9-1-0) [LW 9]
W 3-2 vs SCC, W 6-2 @ Alexandria
Buy! It's like GameStop stock! The Otters started the week slowly, flailing around against a crummy Cathedral crew, and finding themselves down 2-0 to Alex midway through the first. From that point forward, Fergus Falls unleashed fury upon the Cardinals; hopefully parents shielded the eyes of any children in attendance. The Isaacs (Johnson and Young) netted two scores apiece, and this offense is devastating when it's humming. The coming week features another challenge from a 6A contender and a solid AA foe.
Next: Tue @ Brainerd, Thu vs Sartell
9. Orono (7-3-0) [LW 7]
L 1-3 @ Minneapolis, W 6-1 vs New Prague
The Spartans stunk up the joint in their Tuesday matinee, to the point where Parade may have needed fumigation, but bounced back nicely to drill New Prague. Defenseman Hadley Stephenson had a hat trick to pace the scoring in that contest. I'm willing to cut Orono some slack, between the weird start time and coming off the tough Mahtomedi loss. Still, none of the other teams in this range have a bad loss, so they slide down a few slots. The Spartans will have their hands full with two challenging opponents on the slate.
Next: Tue @ Chaska, Sat @ Delano
10. Delano (6-6-0) [LW 14]
W 7-0 vs Waconia, W 4-1 vs Jefferson
The Tigers clawed back to .500 via a blowout victory and surviving an ugly rock fight with Jefferson. They dominated zone time and shots, but managed to do next to nothing offensively and needed to empty net goals for the final margin. Delano has depth for days, though Pinoniemi has been the only true scoring threat. I don't like having them up this high, but other teams are losing their clunker games. The upcoming week features is showdown with Orono, and a win could vault Delano up the section seeding.
Next: Tue vs LDC, Sat vs Orono
11. Dodge County (9-2-1) [LW 11]
W 7-0 @ Faribault, L 3-4 vs Mayo
The Wildcats were cruising along smoothly until a hideous outing Saturday, In which they allowed four goals on only 13 shots and generated only 24 shots of their own. They probably deserve to be dinged for that loss, but nobody else has stepped up. The lack of goaltending and secondary scoring continue to make this team vulnerable. The upcoming slate continues to be very soft, and Dodge County will be favored heavily in both games.
Next: Fri vs La Crescent, Sat @ SCC
12. Mankato East (9-2-0) [LW 12]
W 5-2 @ Winona, W 6-4 @ Northfield
The Cougars put another pair into the "W" column, though not without some difficulty. East trailed Winona 2-1 after two, despite a massive shot advantage; the opposition occurred against Northfield, where they survived a furious third-period comeback and finally sewed things up with an empty-netter. The Cougars are heavily reliant on that top line, powerful as it may be, and are not set up well for deeper opponents. The main entrée this week is a skirmish with Owatonna, the best AA team in the Big Nine.
Next: Thu vs Owatonna, Sat vs Roch JM
13. Sartell-St. Stephen (5-4-0) [LW 10]
W 3-1 vs Brainerd, L 1-3 vs Little Falls
The Sabres started out the week on a pleasant enough note, picking up their third win in a row since the Covid hiatus, and then jumping out to a 1-0 first period lead Saturday night. But any good feelings came to a screeching halt as Little Falls laid siege to the Sartell zone over the next two periods. The Flyers uncorked an absurd 29 shots on net in the second period alone. Quentin Sigurdson was a force between the pipes, stopping 100 out of 104 pucks faced in two games. The Sabres will have to rebound quickly and find some offense, with two more matchups against 6A contenders looming.
Next: Tue @ Alex, Thu @ Fergus Falls
14. Tartan (7-4-1) [LW 16]
W 5-2 @ SSP, W 4-0 vs SSP
The Titans sleepwalked through the opening period Tuesday, finding themselves in a 2-0 hole, but proceeded to stuff the Packers in the freezer the remainder of the week. It's not exciting, but better than others in this range. Sophomore Noah Joyce returned to the lineup Saturday after a few game absence, and kickstarted the offense with two early tallies. There's only one outing this week, versus a Hastings team who defeated them 5-2 back in week one.
Next: Tue @ Hastings
15. Mankato West (9-1-1) [LW 17]
W 9-0 @ Austin, W 4-1 vs Century
The Scarlet continue tearing through Big Nine competition without much resistance. Senior Brandon Swenson potted two goals in each game, while Caleb Cross posted his fourth shutout, improving to an impressive 1.15 GAA and 95.0% in the process. West's schedule should be smooth sailing over the next few weeks.
Next: Tue vs Faribault, Sat @ Red Wing
16. Breck (6-4-0) [LW 19]
L 0-7 vs Gentry, W 3-1 vs Blake
The Mustangs started the week taking it on the chin, but Im generally ignoring Gentry results unless someone gives them a challenge. I was nonetheless prepared to bid them adieu until the Blake game happened. Jack Thomson made 40 saves in net, and Breck took advantage of their limited opportunities in breaking a six-game losing streak to their archrival. With wins over Minneapolis and Delano, Breck is positioned well in 2A, and could help themselves further by avenging an early loss to Providence.
Next: Tue vs SPA, Sat vs Providence
17. Alexandria (5-5-1) [LW 13]
L 2-6 vs Fergus Falls, W 5-1 @ SCC
Fergus Falls ran the Cardinals out of the Runestone Tuesday, for their fourth straight loss. But they rebounded with a cathartic victory over old nemesis Cathedral, with Loken saving 27 of 28 shots and a bunch of youngsters joining in on the scoring. Alexandria now hopes to continue that momentum into its most important week of the regular season, facing two tough section opponents.
Next: Tue vs Sartell, Thu vs Little Falls
18. Hutchinson (6-3-1) [LW 15]
W 5-4 @ LDC, L 2-8 vs Holy Family
The Tigers hung on for a wild win over the rival Dragons, all but locking up the top seed in 3A. Hutchinson pounced early, staking out a 4-1 lead after one, but needed a late Brady Knorr strike to secure the win after Litch had stormed back to knot things up. The Fire simply torched Hutch from start to finish Saturday. The Tigers will have to bounce back against a decent Mound Westonka team they defeated in the week two.
Next: Tue @ Mound, Fri vs Marshall
19. St. Paul Johnson (5-3-0) [LW 18]
W 5-4 @ SPA, W 7-2 vs Highland Park
The Governors needed a furious rally, scoring two goals in the final two minutes, to eke out a win over a weak St. Paul Academy team. The Spartans outshot Johnson 49-23, which is even more cause for concern. Johnson will need to step up the level of play as the competition becomes much more difficult over the next few weeks.
Next: Thu @ Holy Angels, Sat @ Blake
20. Chisago Lakes (7-2-1) [LW NR]
W 6-4 @ North Branch, W 3-1 vs Minneapolis
I was ready to put Minneapolis solidly in the rankings following their upset of Orono, but the Wildcats had other ideas and nabbed that spot for themselves. Chisago has now won six of their past seven, with the lone setback coming at the hands of #14 Tartan. Nick Overgaard bagged a natural hat trick against Minneapolis, and big goalie Max Wilmer has stopped a tidy 93.0% of shots on the season. The upcoming schedule is rather light, though the contests with rink mate North Branch are always intense.
Next: Tue vs Becker, Fri vs North Branch

With regard to state seeding potential,I would argue that the winners of 1A and 3A could potentially be seeded ahead of the 2A winner if it ends up being someone other than Orono or Delano. Obviously it depends on how teams finish out the season, but 2A is messy enough for a wildcard to emerge.

Re: Class A rankings 2-21-2021
Now I see what you fixed.
Re: Class A rankings 2-21-2021
The two teams that seem to have the widest difference in opinion among the human rankings are Alexandria (17, 15, 13, 9) and Armstrong/Cooper (NR, 18, 15, NR). Coincidentally, or maybe not, both have poor records with strong schedules.

Re: Class A rankings 2-21-2021
Thanks Elliott. I needed some comedy relief after our snowstorm here last night. LPH never fails to deliver.
Re: Class A rankings 2-21-2021
At least all of the teams listed are actually Class A teams.............lol.
