Games Tuesday March 9

Post by WestMetro »

Might have missed this thread

(Except MG/LVS)

Anyway, A couple of us ventured over from the west metro to meet friends from the east Metro to watch the Pios beat Cadets 7-3.

Cadets took an early lead on a Pio turnover in their D zone followed by a nice backhand top shelfer past Erickson by Grahame .

Game was relatively even through one and a half periods. After that the Pios scored a couple and put their foot on the gas and built a big lead and never looked back

Cadets got one at the end to make it 7-3

Pios were able to bottle up Hallum for the most part

Sogs were about 2 to 1. Overall, a nice East side rivalry road win for HM.

Saw that, and was curious what happened. Looked at the box score on hockey hub...Andover needed two 3rd period goals, including one with 4 seconds left while I assume their goalie was pulled, to get the tie. CP is not a good team, so this is a head scratcher. Even more so when Andover won 9-1 in their first matchup. Just a lil 8 goal swing

For sure. When I see this in CBB or HS hockey I always think of the kids and coaches. Good for them for believing, adjusting, and executing.

Hill played: Henri Sibley, SSP and Hastings (who didn't put up a fight from the get-go) coming into this game
STA played: Benilde & Eden Prairie leading up to this matchup

I firmly believe Hill had to adjust quickly in this game to playing a much better and faster level of competition. They started slow and it took about a period to get back into rhythm. Its why I am always grateful for Hill's difficult schedule year in and year out. Forget the regular season wins and losses. They're great and obviously have meaning, but I'm okay with some losses to great teams as you progress thru the season and look toward polishing things up for playoffs. For a while now Hill has ended the season against Moorhead, and so you knew typically your last game going into sections would be a challenge against a tourney-level team.

BTW, I thought Joe Palodichuk played a sensational game. Mr. Hockey contender, leads the team in points, probably the best defender in the state, and a (gag) Wisconsin commit. So his credentials are well-known. But he really played a nice game. Goal and an assist, but his best of the night was a complete extension diving play to intercept a perfect pass that was going to lead to a break-away for STA. It was a thing of beauty.

Agree completely.

Comparing Hill to last season's team, the goaltending is solid and the D is incredible. Think of how the young corps stepped up in the state final with Palodichuk out. Now they are Juniors and Seniors and he's playing at the high level you mention.

Up front they don't have an elite forward like Pierre or state-tournament Strobel. From what I've seen they don't need one to repeat. I will not be surprised one bit if they win again. They have been so impressive.

Every team has a bad game they'd like to toss. H-M gave up half their goals all year in that loss to St. Thomas. This is going to be a real hard team to beat down the stretch.
