Once again this season, some observers were deluded by a gaudy record that resulted from a weak schedule. How did Holy Angels do? What about Rosemount? Gentry, anyone? Out with a whimper, all of them.

This should put to rest the theory that "Well yeah it's a weak schedule, but how do you know they won't beat the Big Boys?" They won't because a weak schedule only prepares you for a short playoff run. I know it won't really put that theory to rest, but it should. I recall hearing it about Orono back in the single class era, and their string of 20-some wins got them nothing.

And it matters not WHY their schedule is weak. Maybe it is unfair, but that doesn't put pucks in the net in section play.

It's not like they beat an overwhelming opponent in Eden Prairie. No one was shocked by the result.

True, for the most part.

If I recall, the Orono team mentioned above beat the Lake Conference Champions in Regions that year. That win was all they needed to quiet down the "easy schedule" theory I'm sure. Their 20 plus wins got them everything. A trip to the Met. That was a small metro school's dream back then when you had to get by Tonka, Wayzata, Edina and others to get to state. Also, what type of schedule do you want a small school to play with their maybe 4 games they had to play outside the big bad Surburban West Conference of EP and others. Fun to go down memory lane ES Pioneer Guy.

How about LV South? Lost 7-0 and 7-3 to Rosemount. Put Rosemount in 1AA and it's probably running time in section final.
