Stillwater won regular season 4-2. I'll stick with them, but interesting STA beat Edina twice.

To me, this is eerily similar to the Edina/Moorhead matchup. Stillwater (like MHead) has tons of firepower, but STA has that battle tested, been in tight big game experience. STA looked really gritty against a similarly offensively stacked Shakopee and pretty much shut them down for the most part.

I’m going Stillwater. Hottest team coming into the state tournament and I think their depth will be too much for STA.

Also, Cal Conway.

For game the computer said was sold out, lots of empty seats. P me off!
Guess people don't show or the Stub Hub, etc. resells didn't go so well. They were going for $100/ ea.

This is what drives me crazy about the whole ticket sale process. They just need to make it first come, first serve. If the MN state tournament is really that great, they will come.

What I think you guys may be forgetting is it’s sold out for the session, not the specific game. So seats that are empty may be people coming for game 2 that aren’t quite there yet.

Fair point. And the 6pm start isn’t convenient for battling rush hour traffic. People were filing in right at 6pm.

Ha! It’s all good. It looked a little more filled in during the second period. Clusters of seats here or there without bodies. The school sections were the glaring areas with gaps, especially the ones reserved for Edina and Moorhead.

I’ve long been outspoken on this forum against the transfer culture that’s growing in Minnesota high school hockey, but it’s impossible to not be happy for Cal Conway. If I was him and his parents I don’t think I’d be able to stop smiling for a year, especially while home in Andover. Wow.

That empty netter by Stillwater was one of the those almost 90 degree shots and a backhander to boot.
Stillwater has it goin' on.

Stillwater looks incredibly good. No matter who wins the next game is going to have to have a game for the ages tomorrow night.

Conway bailed them out when STA had them on the ropes quite a few times. Especially in the 2nd period.

Conway is an amazingly talented goaltender. My only problem is that he shouldn't be playing. He, and/or his parents, cheated and got caught.
How he suddenly becomes eligiible for the post-season is one of those mystifying decisions which the MSHSL is famous for.

That being said, Stillwater is playing at an incredibly high level right now. I'm pulling for Moorhead to win it all, but the Ponies would be a deserving champion.

STA had a nice shot advantage, bur they didn't have a lot of high quality chances, especially in the second period.

I've read on here that Conway still drives to Stillwater from Andover every day.

Wouldn't surprise me. But whatever. STA has nothing to complain about. My team lost, you don't hear us whining. Could have gone either way, but went their way. Keep in mind here, Lutz record in sight. 2 Shutouts so far.
