Xcel Energy Center: longest host site
If my math is correct, the Xcel Energy Center has now hosted more state tournaments than any other previous site:
Xcel Energy Center: 25 years
St. Paul Auditorium: 24 years
St. Paul Civic Center: 23 years
Met Center: 7 years
Target Center: 2 years

No wonder Craig Leopold says he needs $200M of your money to keep this old dump from falling in.
Edit: Mariucci is a close second to the Fuse Box.
Also, the Targ was used at least one year for the idiotic Tier 2 tournament.

Target Center for the Tier Tournaments was only used for consolation games.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 7:49 pm No wonder Craig Leopold says he needs $200M of your money to keep this old dump from falling in.

Not so, hockey puck breath! I watched Greenway beat Rosemount 6-1 for the Tier 2 title at Target Center. 1992.wbmd wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 11:06 pmTarget Center for the Tier Tournaments was only used for consolation games.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 7:49 pm No wonder Craig Leopold says he needs $200M of your money to keep this old dump from falling in.

Come to think of it, you're correct as I watched the game from the press box at Target Center. However, the Tier 2 quarterfinals were at the Civic Center.raidergrad72 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 11:26 pmNot so, hockey puck breath! Though I've gotta say the X pales in comparison to the "star" ceiling at the Civic.
Also I'm sure the X is better overall, but that damn NW side where Cosetta's is can be a nightmare to walk around. Not sure what I was thinking but got myself stuck in that long mess. Took me forever to get to the other side.

That Rosemount fiasco was the final nail in the two tier coffin, it really showed what a farce it was.

Re: Xcel Energy Center: longest host site
At the time I was living in a little corner of the S. Metro called Valley Pk. Rosemount mailing address, Lakeville garbage pickup, etc.
Rosemount had a terrible record but got hot at tourney time until my Raider boys sent them packing.
This was also the time when one of the Raiders famously said, " it's nice to be the 65th best team in the state" or words to that effect. I think it was Jeff Antonovich who said it.
That idea was terrible, the beginning of "fairness" in sports and everyone is a winner until you get slapped in real life.

For those who were just too young to know how it worked can anyone explainCrimsonCakeEater wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 7:04 pmImpressive that the first nail was also the final nail!East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 11:32 amThat Rosemount fiasco was the final nail in the two tier coffin, it really showed what a farce it was.
Bring back the Coliseum
Re: Xcel Energy Center: longest host site
The state was divided into 8 sections with roughly 18 teams (I assume) per section. AFTER regular season play, the teams were seeded in each section. Seeds 1 thru 8 went into the Tier I field. The remaining teams in each section entered the Tier II tournament.The51 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 11:18 pmFor those who were just too young to know how it worked can anyone explainCrimsonCakeEater wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 7:04 pmImpressive that the first nail was also the final nail!East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 11:32 am
