Tyler Hirsch
Anyone have any information on what his status for next year is? I'm sure everyone remembers his infamous meltdown after the Final Five game last year, then he played the first series this year before deciding to sit it out, citing personal problems. Will he be back?

Re: Tyler Hirsch
I've been wondering about this too. It would be nice to get him back.

Re: Hirsch
There was a blurb in the StarTrib a week or so about him. It stated that he has been playing/training in Europe under a former North Stars coach (sorry, can't recall the coach's name) and that he intends to suit up for the Gophers next season.

The Gophers have a fair sized recruiting class coming in, next year. It might be tough for Tyler to get back in the door, though. I hope he's well. It sounds positive for him.

Lucia said on KFAN this morning that he expects Hirsch to be back next season. Take that for what it's worth.

Recruiting Class
So who is coming to the Gophers next year? I heard something about some Johnson kid who is supposed to be awesome. Will Kessel stay? I hope Hirsch comes back. Next year the Gophers should be unstoppable.

They should both be impact players, that is if Johnson even comes. He is the expected #1 pick, but all reports are he will spend at least one season on campus. Hirsch and Hagemo should both be back from their respected absences. Kessel will most likely be back, he is a Top 5 pick but is most likely going to a team in financial straights, and he is not ready for the next level yet. Irmen and Potulny are up in the air, although I would expect both to be gone, especially Potulny.

I would stop short of calling them unstoppable. It should be a typical Gopher year in the Lucia era. It all depends on who is back, how much they improve, and how well the newcomers gel.

Re: Recruiting Class
and if they peak 3 weeks before the tournament again, it could be trouble.
can't thank you enough for the time......

I don't see the Gophers winning a champinship with Briggs in net. He is solid, but more run of a mill. hirsch is definately returning this season. I hope he has straightened out the issues that he was dealing with, after last season the last thing the team needs is that circus all over again
I am still hearing that Hagemo has serious concussion issues that will probably end his career. Has anyone heard any other details regarding his situation?

In the paper this morning, Lucia said that he was considering benching Hirsch due to his lack of effort in recent games. I can't see Lucia kicking him off the team for it though... It is my theory that hearing this, Hirsch decided to quit.HShockey2180 wrote:What's the deal, Hirsch was released this morning? Any news as to why?
Third times a charm.

It was locked because there is already a thread devoted to Tyler on this Forum. Also, it's a College Hockey issue which didn't belong in the High School Forum.THEGunslinger wrote:ok, not sure why I was locked by Lee... but again... curious to see what people have to say on the fact that he was outed at the U.
As for him being removed from the team, most know about his history. It's unfortunate and, even more unfortunately, leads people to speculate about something which they know little about. In other words, his issue is a personal one.

It would be a bigger deal if he wasn't released. During the game Friday, he just basically coasted around the ice putting forth zero effort, it was pretty bizarre. He got benched the final 15 minutes or so despite the fact the Gophers were severely shorthanded.HShockey2180 wrote:What's the deal, Hirsch was released this morning? Any news as to why?
It's the same as it has always been, he has his own personal demons to work out. I sure hope he does and wish him the best. It's too bad since he was such a talented hockey player, but his issues as a person must take priority in this instance.
It's a shame
I saw Tyler two weeks ago and he was a mess! The problems he is dealing with are serious and nobody seems to be able to figure it out. It has affected his school and now his hockey and I am sure that the Gopher coaches can no longer allow this to continue to be a negative distraction for the rest of the team.
