I took a stab at the S MN potential sections as well... I don't know my S MN geography very well (let alone the MSHSL's computer model criteria as far as seperation distances, etc...) but here's what we COULD see (watch me be WAY off...):

SOUTHCENTRAL:
1Faribault
2Lakeville S.
3New Prague
4Northfield
5Shakopee
6St. Peter/Lesueur-Henderson

SOUTHEAST:
1Albert Lea Tigers
2Austin
3Mankato East
4Mankato West
5Red Wing
6Waseca

SOUTHWEST:
1Luverne
2Marshall
3New Ulm
4Redwood Valley
5Windom Area Eagles
6Worthington

and...???

EAST METRO
1Farmington
2Mahtomedi
3Minnehaha
4Simley
5South St. Paul
6St. Paul "Saints" (St. Agnes/St. Bernard's/Concordia Academy)
7St. Paul United (St. Paul Academy/Visitation)

WEST METRO:
1Blake
2Breck
3Mound-Westonka
4Orono
5Richfield
6St. Louis Park
7Totino-Grace

NORTHWEST:
1Alexandria
2Crookston
3Detroit Lakes
4East Grand Forks
5Fergus Falls
6Park Rapids
7Thief River Falls

NORTHEAST:
1Babbitt
2Eveleth
3Hibbing
4International Falls
5Lake of the Woods
6Roseau
7Silver Bay
8Warroad

NORTH-WEST CENTRAL:
1Hutchinson
1Litchfield
2Little Falls
3Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek
4Moose Lake
5Morris/Benson/Hancock
6Princeton
7Willmar

One small flaw in your lists.

I've already seen announced (in the Strib, I believe) that Lakeville South will move up next season. With three full classes they will be over 1200 next year so it makes sense.

1AA has only 7 teams this year so they should fit right in.

And that changes everything... plus I don't know if any other new teams will be created... I doubt it. I see the LV S "Opt-Up" is listed on the MSHSL directors meeting agenda for today... I assume approval is a technicality.

this being said, I've also heard form a number of people this AM that saw this post.

The thoughts that are most dominant in this correspondence say that:

1) New Prague could go metro section & that there may be 3 metro sections E, WestCentral, West-w/some true "western MN teams"...

2) that many of my assumptions are wrong based on how the boys 8 sections are done for A.

3) that as in #2 above for boys Hibbing & Warroad won't be paired in same section

4) politics will alter the alignment - including the notion that once the big fancy computer spits out its sections that when the human factor of overseeers comes in that this will lead to some interesting changes

this all being said, I have no idea how it will end up now!!!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 2/1/06 10:00 am

Forgot to mention that some already KNOW how this is aligned. The rumors are spreading, but I don't know anything to be fact yet from a reliable source so we'll just have to wait and see...

The rumor I heard was
Section 2A
1)Red Wing
2)Simley
3)Farmington
4)St. Paul United
5)Richfield
6)New Prague
7)Lakeville South
But if Lakeville south is playing AA that means this wouldn't work!

I have no idea guys... I guess it's all purely speculation right now unless you have some inside knowledge!

Bringing NP all the way into that section seems a little far fetched to me, but there are always some interesting alignments done each time...

It would make more sense to put Alex in the NW Central.

Roseau and Warroad in the Northeast doesn't seem right...?

I would see them being thrown in the NW and Moose Lake being placed in the Northeast.

But its the state high school league and you never know.

We'll see how things shake out.

There is no way Roseau and Warroad will be in the same section as Silver Bay. That is like a 6 hour drive across the state. One of the big arguments to go to 8 sections is to get away from trips like that. The sections will probably look pretty close to the boys.

Boys Class 8A
Lake of the Woods
Warroad
Thief River Falls
East Grand Forks
Crookston
Park Rapids
Detroit Lakes

Then add Roseau you have your 8 team section.

Again, I have no inside info., and I don't know my N & S (let alone metro!) geography all that well. I just wanted to get some discusion started as i know these will be released soon.

It makes sense to mimic the boys sections, but for the fact that there are all sorts of different co-ops and some schools do/don't have teams, etc. in some parts of the state more than others.

Will be interesting to say the least.

another wrench.....

Post by hockeydad »

Will the league limit class AA to 64 teams? they try to do that in boys and girls basketball for class AAAA and AAA (though Lakeville south's opening screwed that up this year and next).

Here's how that would work.
1. They would take the largest 64 schools, enrollment wise.
2. They would add in the "opt-up" teams that choose to play at the higher level
3. they would take an equal number of teams at the bottom of the original 64 and move them down to Class A.

With just under 128 teams, that would make sense, since it would keep sections as close to 8 teams as possible.

If they do that, some current AA schools would move down to A.

Good questions... I don't thinnk they will - but judging from my alignment above I wouldn't put too much weight in anything I say about this!

Does MSHSL always get teams that volunteer to move down so smaller schools can move up?

I'm not sure. I suppose if a team didn't want to move down, they would stick with 9 teams in a section, or they could offer the next smallest AA team the opportunity to move down.

We'll just have to wait to find out

So you get a 6 team section, so far. Lakeville South can't be staying in A!

Seems like they need to find a way to keep AA at 64 or at least close. None of the A sections have more than 7.

LV S classification was on the agenda for this week's MSHSL meeting. Are we certain that they have the #'s in all sports to move "up???"

NP & Farmington will fight it out for this section more than likely.

Although everyone would agree the Novas would be more competitve in A, I am curious how the largest population school in the state (like a coop of most Mpls HS) can be in A. Did they reduce the coop to a single HS?
