NDP - how are girls picked?

Post by nottachance »

It is January and the minnesota selects teams are forming. for those older girls, does the ndp get started around now too?

Question, who picks the girls for NDP phase 1? Do high school coaches nominate or can youth coaches too, since some u14 could be 91's and be eligible for the 15-16 group?

Has anyone heard if there is talk to make single year age brackets like boys or will it always be 15-16 and 17-18?

if you are coaching someone you think should be considered, who would you contact to get her name out there ?

Thanks in advance for feedback.

Coaches pick and no it doesn't have to be a high school coach, my daughter's name was entered as a 15 by her coach. I don't know know who you need to contact, or if forms are sent out to coaches at the youth level. Just one word of advise, don't do it. It is very political and expensive, and when it comes right down to it it doesn't matter. I have watched many girls over the years not make it, and are playing D1 college hockey, and watched girls that have made it, and aren't playing college hockey. The system is definitely flawed. But Good Luck

National Developement

There's nothing like a week in Lake Placid watching your child excel on a national stage. It helps further the kids on many levels but can be political. Most, IMO, who think their kids should have made it but didn't, can't judge talent rationally. They get rapped up in their little "perfect angel" and forget to see the whole picture.
My child has been on both sides of the coin. When she was cut, she didn't do very well and deserved it. She then spent the next year striving for a better result and was rewarded for her hard work.
It's an honor to go to New York.
Don't pass it up to quickly.

Go to the Minnesota Hockey web page and search out the camps. www.minnesotahockey.org, click on "Programs" on the left and find the "Girls National Development Camp." Unfortunately the information is still for 2005. I understand the dates are the weekend of March 24-26 for phase 1 and April "something" (I'd rather be vague than guess) for phase 2.

As I understand it the high school and U14/U19 coaches nominate their players and all these girls are then voted on by all the coaches. I believe the h.s. kids should have been nominated already by their own coaches. I'm shaky on the U14/U19 nominating as my kid isn't in that. I don't know when the "voting" thing is done.

Bottom line is contact MN Hockey, I believe the info on their web page is still accurate as to Joan Shocinski being involved. If she's not, she will know who is.
