WARNING TO STILLWATER

Post by hockeyparent1 »

I HAVE WATCHED EP PLAY A LOT OF GAMES AND WATCHED THEM PLAY IN SECTIONS. THIS IS A WARNING TO STILLWATER. THEY PLAY CHEAP, THEY KICK YOUR SKATES OUT FROM UNDER YOU, THEY CHARGE THE GOALIE, AND WATCH THE REFS BECAUSE GOD FORBID THEY WOULD LET ANYONE ELSE WIN, THEY ARE VERY PRO EP. JUST BE CAREFUL BECAUSE THEY ARE VERY CHEAP AND OVERLY PHYSICAL. LET ALONE THEY HAD TO RECRUIT PLAYERS TO GET TO STATE. SO REMEMBER THESE THINGS AND I HOPE YOU KICK THEIR BUTTS

I only saw EP play two games this season...but didn't notice the type of play you describe. I'll defer judgement to those who've watched them more often this season.

I don't know the status of Stillwaters Kayleigh Bell...broke her wrist in last Saturday's section final. Key player for the Ponies & they'd be much better off with her healthy and ready to go...at 100%

GO PONIES!!!

I am sure the girl who shot 67,000 pucks in one summer will have no problem with E.P.

I drove 70,000 miles last year...and dang it if NASCAR still wouldn't let me drive in the 500 last week.

boblee,

i expect more of the same against cloquet, although cloquet will be much better prepared. it won't matter though because they will be so over matched by a superior ep team.

then ep goes on to the championship game againt roseville where we have the raiders upending ep. coaching this time of year is critical and sertich will demonstrate it.

I agree that coaching is key but doers anyone have the talent/weapons to counter/upend EP?

I believe that only one other team in "recent" history has had the depth of talent that EP has - that being the SSP team with the trio.

I believe they have 4 if not 5 NDP Lake Placid F's. I believe 2 of the D are LP caliber, and the G's aren't bad either... Top to bottom talent wise this team may be right up there with the best ever...

While they let in the 20th goal of the season tonight, they came very close to the fewest goals allowed in a season...

ghs,

no one this year has the weapons to play with them. but no one has had the weapons the past 4 years to play with ssp either and as we all know ssp didn't win 4 straight. this time of year coaching and kids adopting to the new scheme can easily upset a team. i think roseville can and will do this if they get there. sertich is excellent at preparing his team for an opponent, especially one they have already played. added to that a little too much confidence on ep's half and i can easily see it happen.

Good point on SSP, and prep for an upcoming opponent is critical I agree - and it does help to have played once earlier in the season.

ghshockey fan?

Post by hockeyparent1 »

I have read many of your posts and have agreed with most of them, you are very knowledgable and informed in the sport of hockey, but I am very disappointed in you on this one. Sure EP has a great team, but where did that team come from? Are those players all EP Association players that have come through the program? We all know the answer to that. The saddest part is that they are teaching their girls to take the easy way out. Oh you don't like your team well let's go play elsewhere. It's cheating and the sad thing is everyone know about it and does nothing. That is sickening

Sertich is a great coach, no doubt about that. I don't see that as being quite enough to overcome what is in my opinion a pretty large edge for EP in talent. I have to go with EP as the eventual champ (my prediction). I will say I would thoroughly enjoy being wrong about that and hope R'ville can get it done, if given the chance.

No one does anything because you can't! You'd have to have unreal evidence and then the MSHSL would have to investigate and give EP a slap on the wrist if found guilty.

Look at Duluth Marshall's boys team. There was a huge ordeal 5 years or so ago and all Marshall got was a slap on the wrist by the MSHSL.

Nothing can be done until the MSHSL gets a set of nuts and steps into these programs and makes the punishment so unbearable that no one would want to "recruit" anymore.
www.rebelhockey.com

My daughter thought that the state tournament program pages for each team should include a number of open enrollment players on the team. Some of the teams are homegrown and some are not. Thank you Rudy Perpich!

Get over it?

Post by hockeyparent1 »

It's called recruiting and cheating and until the MSHSL does something about it you will always have this problem. So do you tell the girls that have played for EP's Association since they were 5 to get over it. Win at all cost I guess. You are cold and it's wrong.

EP is not alone. There are others too. How many State Tourney teams have at least one player on the roster that isn't "homegrown?" I believe all but one "A" team and at least 4 of the "AA" teams (counting the private).

Some of the best teams of all time have been built with transfers. Many times, those teams are built with the very best players being internal. I'll copy my earlier posts about this again in a few minutes if I can find them.

I'm biased towards certain players involved in certain situaitons, so it's hard to be impartial for me to say the least.

My point remains the same however. EP is likely one of the top teams ever. SSP was too. And, RV of years ago was as well. SSP/EP/RV aren't so bad right now either! There were some more "one player" teams years ago that had that one amazing player - and we all know which ones I'm talking about.

Do I condone open enrollment and transfering? Yes, within the guidelines. As does the MSHSL. What we need to do is ask how strict we want to make the policies and what the goal is. What is the incentive for schools to build strong programs right now? We have far too many HS's that struggle to field teams by prematurely pulling up youth players to make HS teams viable. We need more co-ops and a stronger base.

Until which time we can address the "participation" goals of the MSHSL with the competition concerns of the competitive HS player in mind, I don't know what the alternative is. As I've said before, there is a difference as well betwen players playing to pass time vs. players playing with a purpose. I'd also be hypocritical to attack a student's right to open enroll/transfer as I did it myself.
