Kalli Flor

Has Kalli Flor (not sure if this is correct spelling) accepted any D1 scholarships? I have never seen her play; but always see her name near top of scoring list.

the st paul paper said she didn't have anything yet (a week or two ago) as far as d-1 offers, sounds like some schools interested though. hope she gets one, she sounds like a very solid kid.

Kalli and I are amigas and she told me at the holiday tourney that she is leaning towards St. Thomas. Coach Kevin Gorg is doing an exceptional job recruiting her.

Fine place to play collegiate hockey. the Tommies have put together a very nice team and developed into a top D-III contender on the national scene.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ookyone at: 1/18/06 1:13 pm

FWIW - I expect we'll see Flor get a D1 offer or two if she hasn't already. St. Thomas is a great plan B if one of those D1 offers aren't to her liking.

The big knock on Flor historically has been her footspeed, which I don't believe is an issue any longer. She worked exceptionally hard (not suprising for a kid like her) this off-season and has spent her time at Acceleration, etc. She's big and strong, shoots the puck well, and has excellent vision/read of the rink. Great person & a leader. Any D1 team would be lucky to have her, and I could see her playing D or F at the D1 level. I think they Ivy's should be looking at her if they aren't already, which from what I hear they are.

but, some kids CHOOSE to play D3, etc. too for their choice of school, etc. and there's nothing wrong with that. No matter what, Flor will go down as one of the best ever as a top 7-10 pt scorer, and likely one of a select few to reach the 400pt mark I believe??? There has been a lot of press on her as of late - and deservingly so.

You are absolutely right ghshockeyfan.. she has gotten numerous offers from D1 programs, but out of them all (D1 and D3), St. Thomas has managed to impress her the most so far. Like I said earlier, Coach Gorg has been tremendous in recruiting.

I too believe she is highly capable of competing at the D1 level, however she seemed very excited when she told me about St. Thomas, so I still put my money on there.

I just didn't want anyone to think that Flor hasn't been getting any D1 opportunities. Just wanted to clairify.

Just a thought...

Kallie Flor... 396 points and counting in her high school career! Not to bad! I'd have to say she knows where the net is and how to find the back of it. 99.99% of girls in high school will not achieve these marks. I could be wrong, but I'd go out on limb and say I'm not!

Hockeyhead

A player's #'s are a product of many things. SOS, Coaches' Philosophy, Supporting Cast, etc.

I support the idea of looking at quality opponent stats, but we must put everything in the proper context.

Flor is a D1 player.

Something to be considered Re: #'s too - and this isn't necissarily a direct issue with Farmington or Flor - but if you look at the teams that do good score control in blowouts, their top kids lose the capability to get more points.

I know that NSP's duo lost lots of points for rarely playing in the third period in recent years. Similarly, even at SSP, the trio lost out at times, as probably did many great players at Roseville years ago, and also some should at EP as well. Maybe even the Darwitz & Wendell kids did too?

What I'm getting at is that great players - especially those on great teams (read as not "one player teams") - may not get the chance to put up as many points as great players on other teams with less of a supporting cast.

I guess we could use this to argue for or against Flor's point totals, etc. but the bottom line is still the same - in my personal opinion - Flor is a D1 player.

Idiot

Point one:
I will never deny that I'm an idiot.
Point two:
I never said she was or was not a D1 or D3 player.
Point three:
Who cares about one idiots comments on a Google search? With all the FLUFF you guys put out on certain point producing players, one voice will be drown out quite nicely.
Point Four:
It's not about the kid.
It's about how anyone here can have any opinion or say anything they wish. Overly glowing comments can be as damaging as negetive ones in some peoples points of view. Half of they posts are like ads for Academy Awards. You really have to see to believe.
Point five:
Touche! Here Summer seems to have acredible track record..IMO which means nothing to most of you.
Point six:
Goski.....it's nice to hear from you again.
I believe you are the life blood of this blog.
Your opinions are greatly missed.
I loved your take on blowouts.
Sincerely, bravo!
Point seven:
Who is the evil adult that subjected Ms. Farmington to all this tourture by posting her name in the first place?
Naughty, naughty.
Point eight:
This has been a rip on all posters with no rational sense of judgement or humor. This has not been directed towards Mr. Goski.

It's nice to see people can jump off the deep end so quickly.

Idiot, over and out.

Bobby - I doubted Flor until I had the honor of standing behind the bench and watching her play for (in off-season) and unfortunately then against (in-season) me.

She has improved greatly in the last year, and most definitely you're entitled to your opinion as much as anyone.

I think that it's just tough though as the mindset of this board seems to be that all accept the age old "if you're not going to say anything nice, then don't say anythin at all" approach. This has its merits and pitfalls, and I do agree that one issue is the fact that anyone can get on here and talk up WAY TOO MUCH any kid.

I guess like my comments on blowouts you'll take your shots for speaking your mind, and thank goodness for free speech - but I too try to not say anything negative but also not overhype certain kids, although I am guilty of this with my own team, etc. obviously.

bobby,

farmtown played ssp also, you forgot them in there.

you have to realize that flor isn't the entire team, she can't win all these games on her own, no one player can. her team is just a couple steps behind the better teams and tend to get overwhelmed an run over by them. we can't fault her production in these games entirely on her when her supporting cast in MIA. i agree that most, if not all, d-1 coaches would like to see her production up against the better competition.

when we evaluate a player we don't just look at what they do offensively. there are just too many aspects to the game. we have to look at how they play along the boards, faceoffs, defense, without the puck, etc....

the d-1 programs that are looking at her are not projecting her to be a scoring star. they are most attracted to her intangibles. she brings more to the locker room than she does to the ice, which says a lot. she brings constant positive attitudes and is generally a person that is very likable and people respect. she has been the soul of farmington hockey since she started there. in short, these coaches are looking at a future captain of their team....

i wouldn't hesitate to seriously consider her for my team.......

This is an excellent point, as it's about the puzzle that each team has, and what pieces they need. I think my main point is that - in my opinion - Flor deserves the opportunity to come in and get a shot at D1. Meaning, she may come in as a player that isn't a lock for a starting spot or considered a pre-season all-america selection, etc. - but she may very well be able to take on a role her first season that will help a club and then potentially prove that she can do more than just be a role player. Specifically in this case, and some may think I'm crazy, but with Flor's size, shot, read of the rink, and other atributes - I wouldn't look past her as being able to be a D1 D either in some programs.

Well, I just hope someone can fill us / me in when Ms. Flor makes her choice. It's all I was curious about to begin with. Best of luck to her the rest of the way and in her collegiate career where ever that may be. She'll be a great addition to some lucky team.

Anyone who may not believe a player with a true nose for the net who might not be the worlds greatest skater can have huge success in collegiate hockey, including D-I should do a little research on a player named Nicole Corriero.

Not that that was implied by anyone.
