Should the host seed even be avalible?
I know it is the option of the association to take the host seed when hosting a Region or State tournament, but really does anyone think the spot should just be taken?

My opinion is if you don't earn your way in, you shouldn't be allowed to go! Associations should know this going into it when they bid for the event. I've heard the argument that, "well if the team isn't in it, we can't get anyone to work it." Well I would say that is a bogus excuse. If you as an association can't get a commitee put together to run a weekend tournament (which I believe that association profits from) than don't bid on hosting such a tournament. If little falls is not the second best team in D15 than they have just screwed Alexandria out of a spot. These tournaments at the end of the year should be a way of rewarding the teams that are playing the best hockey.

Anyone else have a take on this subject?

In District 16, the associations as a whole decide if they want the host to take the seed. Roseau took the Pee Wee B1 host seed to regions. Everyone knew it going in and had no objections. It is not a decision for the IR or 11 or 15 to make for 16.

In 16 next year someone else willhave the opportunity based on a rotation. No bidding to see who gets the host. Everyone in the district gets an opportunity. If at some time they do not want to use this system then the associaitons as a group will make the decision.

Yes the host seed should be there for the District hosting that regional tournament(not state). It should also be up to the District how that spot is filled. In some metro districts that spot is their #3 team and in some cases the home association has been in those regions, but earned their way in.

Greybeard makes a good point. It's one thing if the host district gets an extra seed into regions. Not necessarily will end up being the host team, but they are given a better chance to get to regions. Giving a team an automatic bid just becuase they are the host is rediculous. What Little Falls did is wrong.

Missed the point.
Little Falls did not do this.

This is a district wide decision. All teams in D15 were aware of this and all get an opportunity to do it. This was their year.

If you are not from D15 it does not affect you. If you are then you had the right to vote on it for this year and you have done it yourself in the past.

Another thing...
How many districts restrict the number of teams participating at the and of the year. If you do not finish in the top 8 or even 6 you are watching and not playing for a region spot.

Host Seed
Allowing a host seed is a joke. Earn your way in, or you don't belong. It is that simple.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... nhs>gc1 at: 2/20/06 2:12 pm

With all the complaining about redistricting because the bigger areas want more teams only allow 2 teams from each district and when you need more teams have a play off for those extra spots.
