no A team but ranked as a B team

Post by wingerfan13 »

Funny you bring that up as it is a pet peeve of mine. NO they shouldn't. Dodge Co. B bantam's did that a couple of year's ago and look where it has gotten them in HS hockey.

IGH

Post by freighttrain »

IGH had a A team last year and were slated to have another one this season but the varsity coach told the association not to because he was taking underclassmen (8 froshs and 1 8th grader) and we were going to lose kids to SSP also.

All I can say is your playing below the level you should be and so was your C team thats why they were asked to move up to the B level. Other associations your size that play 2 teams play A and B and take their lumps.

The problem is we (the association) is letting the high school coach have too much say in what should be done. Personally i dont think they should let him pick teams or tell the board if we should play A or not at the Bantam level.

jdog I agree with you that they should've definitely been Bantam A but this years high school team could be doing a lot better but has run into drug and alcohol problems. If they can get through that though they should be pretty good next year.

Check out the COMO "B" Pee Wee's they were put in the B's by the TC honcho's and all they can muster is being ranked. Maybe we should have all the TC teams play B so they can be ranked.

A few years ago we at Johnson had just enough pee wee players 15 to be exact and we went "A" and we only won 3 games all year with most games being double digits. This year our "B" Bantam team at the beginning of the year at tryouts we only had 10 players. we kept beating the pavement and came up with enough to have a team and decided it would be "B" fot the talent they have. The coaches have done an excellent job with these kids. This is all the Bantam players we have at this age. I see what people say about COMO's "B" Pee Wee's and I can see there point because they do have 2 pee wee teams with a few players that waivered from Johnson for various reasons. But Como decides what they want to do and who are we to condem them. All I can say is "Good Luck" to both teams in the Regionals.

IGH Bantam A Team

Post by mnboom »

Don't you think that if the top one third of a small association's bantams leave, that association should have the right to not field an A team?
Here is the list of current IGH bantam eligable players who play for various high schools:

11-Simley (including the best goalie)
3-SSP
1-Minnehaha Academy

The IGH B1 team, while having been ranked in the top 20 of the state most of the season by LPH, has not been dominating other B teams. They have beat some ok teams and lost to some ok teams. They appear to be playing at the appropriate level to the rest of us.

Incidentially I don't understand how an association who's A bantam team finished 6-9-1 in District 8 last year can be described as "never fielding a bantam A team???

Dodge County did that last year. Not a bad team but I only seen them play once. At the district tournament they went into double overtime with Rochester I believe and the goalie for Rochester played out of his mind that game. I wonder where he is playing this year?? But anyways back on topic, last year Dodge County could've played B because they wouldn't have been competitive enough in the A level. Easily finished below .500 moving up to A.

Hockeyfan6, that got me to checking into DC's Bantam stats from last year, as I remember them placing 3rd in state as a Bantam B team - on Stickstats their district record was (2004-2005) 13 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie. Should've had an A team. I've heard comments from other's stating the same. Winona goes back and forth with A and B teams. Last year they had PWA, this year they have PWB. Teams, like Red Wing, that are struggling this year at the 'A' level (PW) I give credit to. At least they're sticking with it and eventually, by playing up, they will develope and show their stuff at the H.S. level. Progress doesn't have to be Win's.

Correction: 2 yrs ago (2003-2004) the DC Bantam B team placed 3rd in state, last year they were 2nd in district and made it to regionals. Sorry, time escapes me.

I'm not saying they're a bad team. I was saying if they played Bantam A in district 8 last year and all the other A teams around the metro they would've had a below .500 season
