I don't know how the 93s and 94s are...but the blades have an excellent hockey tradition, probably the best.
Taylor Mattson-The Next Non-Mr. Hockey

94's

Post by Hockeynut027 »

94's are easy.
Icemen and Blades are head and sholders above everyone else in this area. Icemen were clearly the best team over the last 2 years with the Blades and Fire running 2 and 3. Now that these two have merged I would think that they would be right there with the Icemen.

I expected more teams listed for each level. Only 2 teams listed at the 94 level?- Is it normal that 1-2 teams DOMINATE a level?

well there's others that compete just usually get beat by the good teams. Some are close games though, and some are blow-outs.

If I remember right didn't the 93 Preds beat the 93 Icemen in the championship game of the MN Independant AAA tournament last year? I think the score was 1-0. Also, don't forget the 93 lightning.

At the 94 level there were 3 teams last year. Fire, Blades and Icemen. Now that he Fire and Blades combined that only leaves 2 teams that are really AAA teams. The next group includes teams like the Preds, Team Midwest, Team Reebok, Christian Bros. Good development teams but closer to the AA level than AAA. After that you can through in all the showcase teams and teams like the Stars and Ice Devels.

Actually the 93 Icemen beat the preditors every time until the 05 Indepedent Cup (03 in Blaine & 04 in the Independant Cup)But that wasn't the real preditor team was it. They called up Seth Ambroz( top 93 defenseman in the state), And had a 4th goalie dressed who happen to only play that game for them. (McNeely, also the best 93 goalie in the state). 93 Icemen dominated the game, but goalie was unbeatable. Get your facts straight before you open your mouth!!!! Icemen lost 5-0 to the eventual winners(stop time) Preditors lost to them 9-1(running time) thank goodness for running time!!!!!!

A quarter of a century ago there was a team called Team Minnesota. If you wanted to play on team minnesota, you tried out, and played vs. other teams from other states during the summer. If you made it, you probably had some dough, but there was no doubt that you were a great hockey player. The Blades evolved, The Little North Stars, The Super Series. All of these teams have gotten so watered down.

There is so much pride for the Predators, the Icemen, Christian Bros or whatever... it seems odd. A hand picked team of hockey players should be good. The team that does the best recruiting will win, so it seems more like a college recruiting class than a best of the best within the borders. Granted everyone wants a chance to be on a team, but there is so much pride put into recruiting vs. pride in your state or community.

The same thing happened in HS. There use to be a big game between the Maroon and Gold... 20 outstate kids and 20 metro kids, and if you were in that grouping, you were the best of the best. Then it was the Super 64, the Great 8, whatever. I'm all for getting kids an equal opportunity, but Icemen beating the Predators is just kind of a watered down version of something that use to be measurable... Wisconsin vs. Minnesota, Metro vs. Outstate, it just doesn't seem to be worth all the hype.

Best 93 and 94 teams

Post by Wingsfan13 »

I think after the AAA classic last weekend you would have to give the 94 Blades top rank followed by the Jr.Mavericks then maybe the Icemen and the Predators. Lot of good hockey, Mavericks must be a new team.

AAA Hockey teams

Post by justanobserver »

Ricky:

The boys these days are a whole lot better hockey players (as a whole) than the players you are referring to "from a quarter a century ago." This is not only true in hockey but also other sports. The best players did not always get on Team Minnesota in the past. They were great teams but the competition then does not equal the competition which our MN AAA teams face outside Minnesota these days. Yes, you can say the AAA MN teams are diluted because there are a handful of independent teams plus the Showcase teams at each level. But in reality, what you do not understand is that a couple teams at each age level always have players available from these "other" teams to compete at the International level. We are also seeing these Minnesota teams competing very favorably against the top competition outside the state and Canada. When these teams can handle the International competition and place in the major tournaments, they are true AAA teams and probably better in comparison to Team Minnesota and the other teams you mentioned.
