Ooo, didn't even think of Big Papi types of things. I don't think Daunte will be that big of a mistake. Randy definitely was though. I was only thinking accquisitions, never thought of getting rid of great players. Lets hope Gabby & Torii don't get added to the list w/ Ortiz & Moss.

Moss
Moss was a pain in the axe. No denying his talent but its hard to criticize a team for getting rid of him because of his baggage...much like TO.
In addition, Moss is on his way down.
I think Daunte is still on the upswing and they will regret the day they got rid of him...... for a long time.

Papi
If I recall correctly the Twins tried to trade Ortiz but there were no offers because teams figured the Twins would release him, which they did. He signed with the Red Sox as a free agent.
While on vacation I brought along my Stratomatic game and played a game with my 11 year old. I just have the 2001 season so Ortiz was still with the Twins at that point and he happened to get injured. This means that he got hurt so often that the Stratomatic statheads had to put that factor on his card. I think if he had been able to stay healthy the Twins probably would have kept him.

Ortiz
Sometimes they just dont wait long enough for a guy. Sometimes they wait too long.
With Ortiz they figured he was never going to be a quality major league hitter and he had no position so.....
Anyway, back to mistakes. The TWolves have made so many but the biggest might be : Chauncey Billups. How do you let him go?

Ortiz, T-Wolves
packerboy, the Twins had too much confidence in the prospects coming up and figured Ortiz was replaceable. The thing is, I thought he was a good hitter though I didn't think he was good as he's turned out, you'd think the guys who are paid to figure this stuff out would've kept him around longer, injuries and all. And that's probably your point.
Empire, the broken wrist home run is my favorite Ortiz Twin moment.
And the Timberwolves would require their own entire category for bonehead moves, my god how many centers have they gone through? In addition to Billups, you've also got Bobby Jackson. The words 'train wreck' should be synonomous with this franchise.

Ortiz
The Ortiz thing is a "hindsight is 20/20" deal.
Nobody around here so much as blinked an eye when he was released. It turned out to be a mistake but nobody could have predicted he would be the hitter he is today.
I doubt anyone from Boston will say" yah we figured he'd be a perennial MVP canidate all along". It was a fluke.

Ortiz
Not a total fluke. His numbers were not spectacular for the Twins, but he did hit .272 with 20 HRs and 75 RBIs in 412 ABs in his final season for the Twins, good enough to be 3rd on the team in HRs. So his first season with the Red Sox, .288, 31 HRs, 101 RBIs, in 448 ABs wasn't a big surprise, at least to me. The 40+ homers and 130+ RBIs the next two seasons, no, noone could have predicted that.
He was 27 when the Twins unloaded him and had been injured much of the time, he only had two seasons with more than 400 ABs with the Twins. Considering how much he was hurt you can't totally blame the Twins for unloading him, but with the problems the Twins have had getting sluggers, you'd think they could've kept him around another year to see what he could do if he stayed healthy.
