Is it possible to play midget hockey in Minnesota while playing for a high school team. High School Hockey seems to place restrictions on players who are seeking to play out side of Minnesota (eg. Silver stick tournaments Chicago Showcase. Is there a forum within MN beyond the Bantam Level that provides more then what is offered through the public school system. USA hockey in states other then MN have midget divisions but the information I've been given here in Northfield is that once a player is to old for bantams they have to enter the high school system. High School Hockey teams apparently are limited to about 16 games and do not begin practicing until 17 Nov. If anyone can provide information on additional or alternative programs it would be greatly appreciated.

In Minnesota, high school hockey players cannot play for another team once the season has started (Nov. 17 this year), and the restriction is in place until the state tournament ends.
This year's state soccer tournament saw Armstrong's best player sit out the final two games because it came out that he had played a game for his dad's league team a few weeks earlier.

Other options

Other Options include Jr. Gold (which is under 19), Midget (Under 1<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)"> and Jr. Gold - Under 16. Another option would be to tryout for a Junior B team in the area. As a HS hockey player in MN you would get the best opportunity to play. You practice atleast 1 1/2 hrs every day and play at minimum 20 games per year. Most HS programs are also in atleast one Tourney every year around X-mas time. I know this is getting to be real close to try-outs but hopefully that helps.

I actually Coach the Junior Gold program in St. Louis Park and even though we play about 35 - 40 games per year, most of the kids would prefer to play on the HS team. It is usually a much higher level of play.

Josh

to comment further on your post, jmmorgan, yes, there are other options, but not if you play high school. Most Jr. gold teams aren't formed until after high school teams have done their cutting. I'm pretty sure Northfield doesn't have Jr. Gold. Closest is probably Lakeville or Apple Valley.

HOWEVER, the top level of competition is the High school league, unless you want to go to Juniors.

Another possibility is a split season with a junior team (MNJHL or USHL). But I don't know how many teams are willing to accept split season players.

MSHSL plays 25 games, not 16.
