Do Junior Gold A players ever play juniors or DIII?

Post by TommyG663303 »

I'm just wondering if many Junior Gold A players ever play juniors (possibly DI later) or DIII?

There is rarely JG players that get a good look from college teams. Being a former USHLer and DIII player I didn't see JG players advance to college. I DO know of a few who walked on at colleges and filled roles where needed.

Here is my suggestion as a former player who traveled Iowa for 2 years (Take it for what it's worth): Find out who is holding open tryouts in the USHL, NAJHL, MNJHL, and that other one out west (CO, MT) and travel there and see what you are made of! You can always go and get cut or leave, but if you never do it, you'll regret it. You have plenty of time in your life to goto school and work full-time. Take it from me, I was a 20yr-old Freshman in college and it was worth the wait!

As a mater of fact there are many players that have come out of JR gold that are currently in Juniors. And to answer if they ever have, there was a kid named hartigan for ST Cloud who played JR gold in canada and went on to lead the WCHA in scoring...Very llikely to see jr gold players in juniors, not as likely to see them in College D1 but D3 is likely.
rave35

Hartigan

He played Juniors in Canada - which is like Junior A here in the states. Don't get JrGold confused with Canadian Junior Hockey. They don't have this level in Canada.

. . . the shady side of a dogs hinde quaters.

Anything is possible, but when you break down the numbers it gets hairy. I am giving my goaltender info for a junior team down south that is the equivilant of USHL, but obviously a set down, and he can go try out and see what he is made of.

And let us not forget the fine story of:

RUDY RUDY RUDY RUDY RUDY RUDY!

Yes Rudy the lil' midget that could. I'm just joking though. Rudys story is pretty inspirational though, I mean a guy who was small and kept trying and trying to make it. Then his senior year he gets to dress for a game and they let him do one play and he sacks the quarterback.

Stepping stones

There have been a few Tartan Jr. Gold players over the years that went on to play Juniors or DIII. Typically these were the seniors that should have been on the varsity, but got cut for whatever reason. Not many Jr. Gold players can make that jump to the next level, though.

D III etc...

well...I would agree with TartanCoach refering to the fact that most JG players can't make the jump, but there are plenty that can.

I know of several that played JGA and then went on to play D III and Juniors (both A and B). There are a lot of them playing "club" hockey (NOT intramurals) at the U, UMD, St. Cloud etc...

The best legacy for these kids though is to come back and coach !!
