JG B select game
Did the B coaches get this game approved by the MHL board or are they sponsoring the game themselves?

Re: JG B select game
We tried to get this game on the ice last year. MHL didn't go for it then, I doubt that they will go for it this year. If it was going to be played there would have been mention about it long before this.

Check this thread from last year:

<a href="http://www.metrohockeyleague.com/upload ...

hm.... =/ ... well i hope we can get the game going that would be fun

Re: JG B select game
It's to bad the Metro league or metro officials will not spend a few bucks on these kids. These kids and there paretns pay the officials enough; just like the A players and parents.

Sorry blondboy the select game was only for the metro teams. The MHL and metro refs fund this event.

Re: JG B select game
In my oppinion its not about spending the bucks, its about where do you stop when it comes to honoring an effort. We will now have state playoffs for B and 16u level teams, thats going to far as far as I'm concerned. The select game was intended for A players typically seniors to honor them for their effort. The ice is donated by the district hosting it, the officials do it for free as well. There is a gate but that covers the cost of jerseys plus a few misc costs. And remember the metro board is a group of volunteers from each district that has teams playing in the mhl. If you want to play in the select game then play on an A team and work hard enough to be selected by your coach.

Re: gferhock1
Way to put your concerns ahead of the kids.

If its not about spending the bucks, then why not spend it on all kids that contribute to the fund. The B and 16 U teams pay the same fee. Share the wealth!

Some players do not have the opportunity to play in the "A" select game as there association does not offer this team. Therefore, they do not get to play in this honored game.

The MHL being volunteers is not the point. Volunteers take on the job to help kids enjoy hockey and do the organization for the kids. That is the role they sign up to do. Also, two of the "volunteers" are paid. Review the MHL minutes.

Gate fees go to a worthy cause, not jerseys or miscellaneous fees. Jersey costs and misc fees are from the team fees all MHL teams pay!

Re: gferhock1
I'm not putting my concerns ahead of any kid. Its not about any wealth to share. Squirt b2 players contribute to association dues as well as district dues and so on, so they should have a regional and state tournament ? My only point is when do you stop. If you have an allstar game for every level, then whats the point.
I am all for making the league better, offering a format that improves players and makes it more fun, so dont confuse that with my point of view on this topic.

Re: gferhock1
yeah but lots of kids play for teams that might only have a B team ? ... like i guess the team i play for cant play in it anyways .... but our team has a couple players on it that would tone even in the junior gold A all star game .... and why should they not be able to play ..... cuz im sure there are some other teams that can play that are just like that

Re: gferhock1
Your point is well taken, but what about the b1 bantam that cant tryout for select/advance 15's because his association doesnt offer an A bantam team. Many districts will only allow their selects tryout from an A team or a high school varsity team. This subject has been debated many times by district reps in favor of expanding the league, its not like many think that they just sit around worry about their own agenda. If you want anything done, the first thing you should do is contact your district reps to the mhl. Tell them what you want, get organized so your productive. Make them take it to the mhl meetings and dont give up. But remember to listen to reason.

MHL B Select Game
For those who are unsure, there is no such thing as a B Select Game, so don't ask how you get in it. (If there was, you'd get selected, that's how. Thus the name!)

The concept of a B Select Game was brought to the MHL Board late last season by two of the B coaches (and silently backed by CoachGuy) as an effort to answer their own question . . . Can you imagine what the game would be like if that kid played with the one kid from Roseville and the other kid from Tartan? They wanted to put together a real Select Game and not a "reward" for being a senior. The Board listened and was partially supportive, but wanted to examine the concept over the summer and look at the possibility for this current season, instead of "throwing together' something for last year.

As fate would have it, neither coach is still coaching at the JGB level (and CoachGuy is pursuing his modeling career), so I don't think the idea has continued . . .which is what the MHL Board wanted in the first place.

The big loser in this is not the kids, but hockeydad1956 . . .his kid was scheduled to be on the first line.

Hope that helps clear things up some.

Re: MHL B Select Game
HA HA HA...Jason the board has missed you this year. Are you going to check out any of the games this weekend?

PS the modeling career isnt going anywhere, i should have kept coaching. I would have won state!

Jason who? <a href="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ...

I may be checking out some JGB games this weekend, but I have 3-4 Bantam B Regional games of my own to concentrate on down 'round Chaska way. Have a shot at a State Tourney appearance as well, so that might interfere with attending the JGB State and the Championship game between the Eagles and Raiders. Look for me if you are at any JGBEagle games, though.

You might not recognize me. As Eddie Vedder said, I'm half the man I used to be.

Hey: MNHO and Coachguy

Quote "The big loser in this is not the kids, but hockeydad56 . . .his kid was scheduled to be on the first line."

I am not sure how to take the big loser comment???

My boy was asked to play on the JGA team in our association his Sophmore year, the next year he was picked to be the Captain on the same team. We lost a couple players due to fighting, had some season ending injuries and ended the year with eight skaters. We finished near the bottom of the standings his Junior year, but he was asked to play in the "Select" game, partly due to his skills on the ice and partly due to how he kept his head in some very lope-sided games. The association we played with decided not to feild a JGA team his Senior year. We were told we could go to surrounding associations to see about playing for them. He was not given an option to try-out as the other associations told us their try-outs were closed to kids from their association only. We scraped together some kids and put a JGB team on the ice. We had a great year, lots of fun and did fairly well in the standings and playoffs. I was interested in helping to but together the JGB Select game so some of the kids would be able to walk away from the 03-04 season with some great memories and a token jersey.

Based on my experiences around this game, there are no losers. All my kids have played and the game has helped them to become confident and assured young adults. My 13 year old daughter decided to hang up her skates and took up snow-boarding (hockey might be cheaper). So I have found myself without a hockey "fix". I joined an Adult Beginner League and my son is our coach. We are going to the leagues National Playoffs in Toronto. He is playing on an adult team and the guys on the team have dubbed me their No#1 fan.

Hope to see you both at the JGB games this weekend. The RAVE is made up of about half the guys from our team last year. They might pull themselves together and suprise some folks this weekend.

Aint no losers in our locker rooms.

Re: MHL B Select Game
Had nothing to do with the loser comment. Only people i make fun of here are people who can race snow mobiles up and down main street if ya catch my drift.

Best of luck to all teams this weekend A, B, and U16.

CLARIFICATION for hockeydad1956
Sorry for the confusion, let me clarify my comment . . .

What I was implying by calling you the biggest loser in the whole deal is that I know how much you wanted that game to happen and your son would have been one of the starters of the kids we looked at. I know that you would have enjoyed watching him play with/against that high level of players, so I was simply saying you missed out most because the game never got coordinated.

Certainly not calling you a loser by any means.

or is that two sense, my wife says I don't have either.

Re: MHL B Select Game
I just wanted to jump in here and say hey.

IMHO, it's too bad that the MHL, districts, associations, and teams could not come together earlier in the season and get something going to have a JGB select game. I was one of the coaches last year that talked with the MHL and other coaches about a select game. The MHL was pretty responsive and asked that we continue our efforts in getting more people interested in the idea. If we come up with a solid plan and bring it to the MHL Board ... they would seriously consider it for upcoming seasons.
I would encourage anyone that will continue with JR Gold and the MHL AND has an interest in bringing a Select game to the JGB ranks to continue your efforts. The first step would be to get some Coaches (Associations, and Districts) together and bring your idea to the MHL Board meeting. Regardless of what some may think, the board members really are there to better the game of Jr Gold Hockey. They will listen. Now, you may not get the answer you want (at first at least) but you'll be the "Rosa Parks" and get the Bus moving --- so to speak.

I'm glad to see some of the same people here as last season and even more new comers. I do miss the Jr. Gold game.

I coached at the Peewee A level this season and will be coaching at the Bantam A level next season. Therefore I have my hands full and can't continue to be one of the entrepreneurs of these types of Jr Gold ventures. But I sure hope that some of you ARE!!!

Re: MHL B Select Game
What I was trying to say in my little rant is that....... Kids from all levels of play deserve a chance to play with the best of the best from the teams they have competed against. A lot of kids end up playing JGA and JGB for a lot of reasons, they should be given the chance for their 60 minutes of fame. Gotta go, the dogs need to get out to pee.
