And it shouldn't happen. This is not an "in-house C" league.

Let me clarify this:

Have Jr. Gold follow the high school rules. Treat them as high school players. The high school rules would allow for a faster game. ie off-sides

This is in no way intended to mean a "c in house" level.

I think the question should be re-phrased to say:

Who thinks Junior Gold should adapt a differing set of rules than that which are being utilezed now.

or for the forwards in the group....

who thinks Junior Gold should play by High School rules?

I personally agree strongly for this. If we are indeed trying to develope our younger players...i.e. soph, juniors, we should play by the rules of the level we are trying to help them get to.

high school rules

i agree that Jr. Gold should be playing with high school rules. Aolt of players at this level will or have played on a high school team. The offsides rule for the most part is outrageous. All the games momentum is taken away because of it.

play by hs rules

It cant happen, because of USA hockey rules which Jr Gold plays under. Sorry guys, have your local associations contact their district directors to put it on the list of rule changes for 2008 ? I believe.

Junior Gold is a Minnesota Hockey classification. MN Hockey could adopt the rules without going to USA Hockey. If the players and coaches wish this to happen it could be adopted for the next playing season (2006 - 2007).

Just request a MN Hockey Board member to present it to a Rules committee member for a vote.

ttt

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... liott70 at: 12/21/05 3:56 pm

how about just allowing some of the larger programs (EP, Edina, WBL, etc..) opt into the "second tier" of the MSHL ?? instead of making a new league ?

Well considering most of the Junior Gold players are the kids who dont have the grades to play HS or arent eligible to play hs hockey go to Junior Gold. Or its atleast that way for my town and the other surrounding towns. Most of the kids enroll back into school so the can play Junior Gold.

Seriously

Post by PETESPOSSE »

You seriously are saying that kids go back and enroll into high school....just to be able to play Jr Gold... THATS AWESOME!!! And I'm not being sarcastic at all. Education is more important....but if hockey drives education thats awesome!
By the way... to make Jr Gold High School C is only somthing WI would do cause they cant compete with regular high school teams from MN... sorry but I think its true.
Or maybe I dont understand what WI high school C teams mean.... let me know if I'm wrong...I truly would like to know what WI high school teams are.

How do the best Junior Gold A teams compare with the regular High School teams in Minnesota?

Makes sense...

What most of you are saying makes complete sense. However, here are a few things to think about regarding the USAH, Minnkota and Minnesota Hockey Rules:

1. USA Hockey sets the playing rules, coaching rules and officiating rules. They do not set ALL rules. Minnkota hockey sets more of the administration stuff, and same with Minnesota Hockey (except HEP).

2. It is actually the local district (i.e. District 6, district6hockey.net) that sets the rules regarding Jr. Gold play, in cordination with the Metro Hockey League (metrohockeyleague.com). If you want to change the off-sides rule to the tag-up rule, I think it's a great idea. To do that, you will need to contact a district board member, or the district director.

3. Taking a look over the rule books (USA Hockey, your district and association) is not a bad idea. You would be amazed at how many rules there are that you've never even thought of.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... pHOCK14 at: 1/8/06 2:52 pm
