Marshall announces staff’s first recruiting class
July 17, 2006 - The College of St. Catherine head hockey coach Brad Marshall has announced his first recruiting class for the upcoming 2006-2007 season. There will be 12 new additions to the program. “As a staff, we are very excited about this group of players,” states Marshall. “We worked very hard to bring in some quality student-athletes who will step in right away and make an immediate impact on our program.”
Katie Allen (Duluth Central / UMD) and Kaytlyn Mount (Bloomington Jefferson / UND) are transfers who will help out on the blue line. “These two are going to be difference makers for us on defense. They are experienced players who have the size and skill to hold their own in front of the net and to jump up into the play when needed. I’m looking forward to seeing what each of them can do in the MIAC. They should be upper level players in this league,” stated Marshall.
Defensemen Chelsea Crowell (Marshall, MN) and Lizzy Schreiner (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. Simley HS) will also be in looking to add depth at the blue line. “I am excited to add Chelsea and Lizzy to our defense. They both work extremely hard and will get accustomed to the college game very quickly.”
Marshall is looking for an improvement in the goal production area this year by adding seven forwards to the team.
Aryn Ball (Bemidji, Minn.) and Stacy Spector (St. Paul, Minn. / St. Bernard’s HS) seem to have the credentials to help. “Aryn comes in from Bemidji as a natural goal scorer. Her size will help us along the boards, but her knowledge of where to be on the ice, especially on the power play. Stacy Spector will be a very good player for us by Christmas. She’s about 5’8 off skates and can get up and down the rink. She had 20 goals in 26 games last year, that was about 75% of her teams total goal production from last year,” added Marshall.
Danielle Becker (Eden Prairie, Minn. / Benilde St. Margaret’s) will be looked upon to put the puck in the net as well. “Danielle has shot that can find the back of the net. She has a quick release and can place it where she wants with some power behind it. She’s a quick little player who hates to lose.”
Kelly Mueller (South St. Paul, Minn.) has a great resume coming into St. Kate’s. Marshall is excited about the skills Kelly brings to the Wildcats stating, “This kid knows how to win and will do all the little things that we need to do. She has three state tournament championships and was well coached. She will block shots, kill penalties and provide the leadership not many freshmen are able to do at the college level.”
Kristin Anderson (Stewartville, Minn. / Rochester Lourdes HS) comes from a successful program with multiple state tournament appearances. “Kristin will make us a better team because she competes. That’s something we need more of. She has good size and strength, I’m hoping she will cause trouble on our opposing defense with our fore-check. She’s a smart player who contributes by playing her role to perfection.”
Forward’s Lauren Martin (San Jose Jr. Sharks) and Katie Gulsvig (Colorado Springs, CO) will be traveling a great distance to join the CSC hockey program. “Lauren visited in September of 2005 and made a great impression on the entire college. She comes from a top AAA program out west in San Jose and has had great coaching. She is excited to play college hockey and I’m eager to throw her into the line-up every weekend. I’m interested to see what Katie can do. She scored a lot of goals out in Colorado, hopefully that can continue here.”
Jackie Weiden (Shafer, MN / Chisago Lakes Area HS) is the lone goalie Marshall is bringing in. “I’ve been recruiting Jackie since coming to St. Kate’s, she’s had everyday experience and success at the high school level. Jackie had great numbers playing at Chisago Lakes. She played nearly every game in four years, her save percentage was very good and she loves to compete, Jackie is a great person off the ice, on the ice she has that swagger and confidence I like in a goalie,” added Marshall.
St. Kate’s opens their season November 4 and 5 at Finlandia University in Michigan. Other non-conference opponents include U-W River Falls, U-W Eau Claire, U-W Stevens Point and Wesleyan University.

Marshall's First Recruiting Class
That looks like a nice recruiting class. Two transfers from D-I should give 'em a big boost. Out on a limb...Marshall builds a program to compete / rival the Gusties & Tommies in the MIAC. If you can compete with them you're a player on the D-III national scene. I would like to see GAC and UST challenged a bit more in the MIAC.
