Here again, as in AA, the coaching is strong, and I never look past a Hibbing or Edina team with such solid coaching...

It's so early, I guess right now I'm more about adding teams that should be considered for top 20 vs removing teams from consideration - and I'm nowhere near making any determinations about placement at this point...

I'd be curious though to hear what others think if they've seen many or some of these teams already. I haven't seen enough to make any logical order of them yet. That's the beauty of a pre-season ranking though I guess!

I have watched SSP for so long and will always support them. After watching the 1st few games, I am not sure what to expect on the season. Any insight?

#1 is a tough call. Was SSP loss to PL a fluke or a sign of things to come? Can a Blake team with a 2-3 record be called #1? Although the 3 losses are all to top 20 AA teams. I think one more week before changing status quo on that one.

1 SSP
2 Blake
3 Richfield
4 Hibbing
5 Alexandria
6 Shakopee
7 Breck
8 Crookston
9 Warroad
10 Simley

the bottom 10 I don't know except Totino-Grace should drop.

Crookston at number 8 after wins over Warroad and North Metro? And being 6-0

They look like a logical choice to move up.

Also Breck being undefeated should move up.

A Rankings

Post by Roman Legion »

It is awesome to see the variety of opinions on the rankings. That is what I love about this thread. You will never run out of people who have something of quality to say.

I agree with GHS that it is a little early on the computer.

It should be intersting to see if Blake passes up SSP this week. I think that they should even though they have 3 losses to top 20 AA teams. Remember that the SSP loss was to an unranked AA team. (although I think that it was a fluke)

The one thing that is evident in A hockey is that there are a number of teams that could be ranked in the top 10 or 5. I gap from 3-15 is not as big as it has been for the last several seasons. It should lead to a great post season. I hope.

A Rankings

The true sleeper here is Breck. You have a young player in Haller who is so strong. I saw her play several times and I was impressed. They have others as well. I can see them moving up to at least number 4.

Simley

Post by Bensonmum »

Something has to be said now about Simley. Are they for real? Even if BK is hurting from transfers out, 12-0 is impressive. And I've heard Woodbury still has some very good players even after they lost some players to Cretin. How high should Simley move up? Top ten for sure? Top five?

In my humble opinion it's still way too early to determine this rankings stuff both for the computer and probably in general. As teams get further into their schedules and the year progresses then we should be able to evaluate better. Being off to a decent start is great, especially when a team is young and also when typically your teams come together by the end of the season vs. getting off to a decent start. The bottom line is that the quote is true that "it's not about how you start, but instead how you finish." Like many teams at this point, my squad has a lot of work to do and truly hasn't accomplished much yet but attempting to acclimate many young players to the HS game. We have an uphill battle coming into our final Non-conference games (including a Shakopee team on Sat. that has played two top-ranked AA teams very close in the last two games). Our conference play is no easier as all of our conference teams will give us strong competition as always. We're taking it one game, practice, and day, at a time and the kids are working hard every day so I couldn't ask for anything more in that respect.

A rankings Dec 6

Post by trilogy »

Class A is harder for me to rank this week but here goes. I can only do a top 15 list, after that point I can't distinguish much. Will be easier with more data :?

1 Blake -they have the personnel and play a strong schedule, get the nod for now
2 Crookston
3 Simley - GHS your team has earned it
4 Breck - unbeaten but how will they do against a top 10 team? Time will tell
5 SSP- not #1 anymore but don't count them out just yet
6 Shakopee -One word. Defense.
7 Alexandria
8 Hibbing-Chisholm
9- Richfield
10- Faribault
11-Austin
12-New Prague
13-Silver Bay
14- Warroad
15- Mankato West

Ok I had a tough time with 11-15 too. You could argue me out of some of these. But I like my top 5.

So let's hear yours, and don't hold back, give details! 8)

I think any top 10 in A has to have New Prague. They've lost one game to a class A school and that's Hibbing. I see they're not getting the respect from some of you guys.

Richfield beat NP & Farmington. Key matchups for seeding this section (2A) as well as ranking class A will be when NP & Farmington square off 2x in Missota, as well as when Richfield & Simley play 2x in Classic Sub. Simley also plays Farmington NC, but not NP. Also, some play between United & Red Wing and the above mentioned teams also happens I believe.

Class A Rankings

Post by Roman Legion »

It looks like Section 2A is going to be a good one. With New Prague, Simley, Richfield and Farmington all ranked in the top 13. Is this section the deepest in class A? It will be interesting to see how all of these teams progress as the season continues.

It's a long season that's for certain, and I still truly believe that a great start is great but it's so much more about how you finish! All of these teams have some good tests coming up in conference play too... So with many head-to-head and common opponent scenarios should render lots of info. for seeding/ranking come season's end.

The Simley freight train keeps on rolling. Beating a quality AA team has to convince (neighborhood rival Sibley last night) --even if it's still early, they now deserve the respect.
