Seen Simley play last night, they didn't win but they look like a very good team, they play there positions very well and try to force there opponents to make bad passes, the deserved to be ranked and just seemed to come out a little flat

Last night proves some things to me. 1) Very few Class A teams should even be considered for a Metro Top 10 ranking. 2) HM is underrated as I've said all along. 3) My young team has a LOT of work to do as they're playing parts of games and not start to finish. Good teams kill you when you do this & especially when you take lazy penalties that end up costing you the game (3PP G allowed - L 3-1). We've only allowed 5 even strength goals through 9 games, but the PP goals count too and will kill you obviously... HM outplayed us and proved they are a better team. They are well coached and very solid all-around. They play a top-SOS and will play with anyone.

I've said all along that HM will end up ranked about 30th, they have some very skilled players and there defense is supurb. your team played good when they were short handed but they took to many penelties. The outcome would of been a toss up if Simley could have kept out of the penalty box. Playing AA teams will help Simley when it comes to playoff time because nothing will surprise them. I really liked how your team would force the defense to make bad passes when you were short handed. you don't see that kind of agressive play to often

93% on the PK coming in. HM converted on 3 of 6 PP. That cost us having a shot at winning the game. HM moves the puck well, and when they do that on the PP it's tough for even the best PK teams. The passing and puck movement by HM was impressive on the PP. I thought the same was true in general. They transitioned well, and moved the puck to the weak side of the rink/open ice as well as any team I've seen. They're well coached, and have a very solid team. We're aggressive, but were a step slow against a quick HM squad. This was a great loss for us as it brought us back to reality and drove home that we still have a lot of work to do which starts this afternoon at practice... and we'll be watching the HM game tape as well this afternoon after practice & plyos...

Also should mention - HM was first team to shut out our PP. They had a goal in every game so far (32% on PP) but were 0 for 3 last night...

Is the Edina record correct? I thought they were 9-0-2. May this still be a product of that 2OT game vs. Shak?

is it that way on mn-scores too? That could skew the QRF that has them #1?

Just a couple thoughts. Huge win for Simley over Richfield. This should place Simley in the upper echelon in both the conference and the A Rankings for the near future. Also: it's time to wonder if CDH and ForestLake were a bit over-rated early in the season. Big wins: Blaine over North Metro and Blake over Wayzata! Is Blake scary good in Class A?

IMHO, CDH & FL are high quality teams that will give anyone a great game any nite. CDH is so well coached and has such solid D & a great player in Keys (as well as others) that I think they are still a force to be reckoned with. I don't know as much about FL unfortunately. Carpenter is a solid G from what I've seen from her in the off-season "coaching" I've done. Shelafoe is a name that I've heard before too, but otherwise I don't know much about their squad. Just looking at their results, they have beat SW by 1, lost to CDH by 1, tied an underrated Hastings squad, but lost by a touchdown+ to RV (which anyone is capable of when that RV squad is on and your own squad is off a bit).

Blaine has done pretty well with a decent SOS and also amazing G in Nixon. Finding some offense is critical. They too will be in the hunt come season's end. North Metro needs to be looked at as a top 20 team in AA.

Blake is the EP of Class A. They are that good. No other A team can match their depth & talent. I have to pick them as the early favorite in A in 2007. If any A team plays with them that's something to be proud of. Well coached team too I might add.

Wayzata has outstanding goaltending and is playing as a team it appears. There are adjustments that are needed when you lose a co-head coach and also the players they did last season. thankfully they have one of the best head coaches around remaining and a deep talent pool to draw from. Again, here's another team that I woudl hate to play against come Feb. (or now for that matter).

And, lastly, Richfield & Simley match up real well and this is going to make for an interesting section in 2A. It's not 6AA or 3AA of past years, but as far as A goes there are some nice Class A small school teams in 2A that wll battle for a trip to state. The frontrunner has to be NP with trips for multiple years to their credit and Ms. Hockey 2007 frontrunner Kilpatrick + Ambroz, etc. Farmington also very solid.

Polls

Post by Roman Legion »

Polls are just polls. I am not sure how much higher Simley can go in the rankings. They are already #8 in LPH. That is pretty darn good. They play SSP but no one else above them in the poll. And who says that SSP will be #3 after losing to another "A" team last week. The conference is wide open for Simley and the other top teams. I think that people already know that.

I have said this before and I will say it again; outiside of Blake "A" is wide open. #2 to #15 are about as equal as you can get. Each just depends on who shows up, who has a PP that is clicking and who can get enough goaltending when needed.

I agree with GHS that 2A should be an interesting section for "A" hockey. I disagree though with NP being the front runner. I would say that Simley would be the #1 seed for me right now followed by NP. Those two should battle it out in the final with Simley as a 2 goal favorite. Nobody can geat Gerten!

It's going to be hard to move any higher in the polls, and to be honest there are some very good teams above (and below) Simley right now in the rankings/polls/etc./etc.

NP will be tough, Richfield is solid as we saw last night, Farmington can beat anyone, and RW/SPU can't be looked past either. Should be fun, and a lot can happen between now & Feb too so you just never know! I will say though that I don't believe another Section 2A team has 2 players of the NP duo's level and so that alone is a huge advantage. Gerten is amazing though, and the other teams have some great players as well...

Rumor has it that CDH is in a bit of turmoil at present time. They won six straight and looked impressive. Then coaches changed the lines and team hasn't been the same. The line changes have the players somewhat baffled (not really). Power play was clicking and that got changed too. And one of their centers may have broken her ankle.
