Ratings, a different perspective

Post by hockeyrube7 »

I think ratings could be looked at in a different way. The only ones that matter are at the end of the season. And if you lose out in sections, you don't get rated in the top 10 generally. So here is my take on where the ratings will end up, with sections 1 through 8 in each class. Barring injuries, team distructions and so forth. These of course depend on match ups in the state tourney brackets. Take a look at the sections, and lets speculate/debate from here? It's too early for a poll here, I think.

Class A
1) Blake- 4A
2) Breck- 5A
3) Alexandria- 6A
4) New Prague- 2A
5) Crookston- 8A
6) Austin- 1A
7) Hibbing- 7A
8) Fairmount- 3A

Class AA
1) AHA- 5AA
2) Eden Prairie- 6AA
3) Cloquet- 7AA
4) Rosville- 2AA
5) North Metro Stars- 4AA
6) Rochester- Mayo 1AA
7) Still Water- 3AA
8) Moorhead- 8AA

Your ratings look like they could be accurate, but there still is alot of hockey yet to be played and if a couple of goalies get hot at the right times some of those teams will be left out when it comes tournament time. I'm a firm beleiver in that we don't know how anyone looks until after the holiday tournaments and the ratings are more or less a game until the playoffs start.

That and there are a couple of sections that will be really tough! 6AA may be the toughest, EP, BSM, Edina, Wayzata, Prior Lake, Hopkins, and Minnetonka, are all fine teams, and any could take that section. 7AA may get a bit tough, with Cloquet, GR, Duluth, and Proctor. 3AA with SW, Blaine, Centennial, WB, Irondale, and SPL. It's not going to be easy for any of these teams. Just like to look at it a bit differently is all, 6AA could easily have 5 to 6 teams in the top 10 at any given time, yet only 1 or maybe 2 will be there in the end.

Another observation: I've heard comments on here about how Class A teams in no way compare to AA teams, other than Blake. I don't believe that to be completely true. While A is not as deep as AA, I do believe any of the 4 or 5 A teams I have listed here could easily compete with any of the top 10 from AA, and should beat many. Where I do agree, is that A tends to taper very quickly from there on down.

In the long run, it will all play itself out, but that is the fun of speculating for now.

No, but look at that section. :? Annonymety is the key to this thing, and I do not believe in promoting my home program over others, or even teams from our surrounding areas, unless they are deserving. That is why I try to get out and see as many teams, and other games for myself. Beside, "You gotta love it!" Right.

rube...

Isn't Fairmount in 1AA or does GHS have it wrong?

Do you really think Prior Lake, Minnetonka or Hopkins could win 6AA?

No, not really, but there is always the any given day effect, and those teams are competitive as it is.

They are on MSHSL, that is what I look at for sections. Maybe they are wrong?

I think Farimont is 3A, at least they should be in the same Section as New Ulm, Marshall, Windom etc.

Oh, I agree, I like to look at the Krach page because it has them all in one place, when I saw no Fairmont there nor in the other MSHSL sections I jumped to the wrong conclusion, guess you ned to look 3 places. Interesting we could get so far in the season without anyone noticing that Krach had them a section 1AA team.

Rube

If you are predicting what might happen in February based on what might transgress in the next 7 weeks then I think your opinions may be fine because it is just specualtion.

But if you are projecting what might be based on what has transpired through today I would take exception to some of your rankings.

First example - Moorhead in Section 8. Bemidji has the clear distinction and would be seeded number 1 at this pont and therefore the favorite and therefore deserving og the ranking.

Other examples to follow when I retrun (from Christamas travel).

Perfect! This is all just speculation, is it not, no predictions, not yet, way too early for that. That's why they play the game. And this is what I find great about this forum. If I were to say EP is not going to make it to state, everyone would think I was insane, yet look at their section and what is in there, who can say at this point. The point I was trying to make is we should rate a little more by section, as there is no way in the end that EP, Edina, BSM, and Wayzata all end up in the top 10 of AA, yet are currently all there.

Are you saying that Moorhead has no chance compared to Bemidji? Please give examples of why?

Just trying to keep a positive yet different look at it all. I find it interesting when some say on here that "team A would never compare to team B". And then team A goes and beats team B, and not just by a little. Good example is SW beating CDH 5-1, who'd have thought that prior to the game.

Nothing is set, and when they play, it will all work out. Just somthing fun to discuss. Not trying to cut on any specific team.
