Edina has to be favored but both teams are so good defensively you would expect it to be a very low scoring game. I would say 2-1 Edina.

Prove you are not clueless JLS and name five Open enrolled players on the Edina Varsity.

I will help you out. Edina has two students who do not live in District 273. One, Christy Smith, lives 100 yards north of the district boundary and she open enrolled in 9th grade. The other, Brittany Hartman lives in Prior Lake. She moved to Minnesota two years ago and after two years in the Prior Lake district transferred schools.

This also doesn't take into consideration that one of Blake's best defensemen, Sam Butters, one of Brecks best players, Madison Styrbicki and one of Academy of Holy Angels senior leaders, Amelia Simonet all live in Edina. And all three played on either U12A or U14A state tournament teams.

The facts are Edina is minus one in the transfer department currently. And this doesn't mention that Joccie Cookson and Erin Olson played significant roles on Non-Edina State Championship teams AFTER they had transferred OUT of Edina.

The fact is that the Edina AD is leading the proposal to make it more difficult to transfer. Is your AD sticking his/her neck out on this topic? Personally, I don't have much of an opinion regarding transfers because my children go to the public school where we live and I don't really care what other people decide is best for their child. However, it does offend me when people make uninformed comments misrepresenting my community. It is so ridiculous to label Edina as a community who wants or needs transfers. It is quite the opposite. We have communicated to all interested that we do not want transfers to come into the community. We prefer to give the opportunity to those who work hard to develop the program from the bottom up. We believe there is value to having a bunch of girls play their entire lives together.

If you read the Star & Tribune article that had comments from the Edina player saying that the AHA vs Edina game was "a tough game because we have so many friends on the other team," then you will understand we teach our children that their teammates are their best friends for life.

open enrolment is not a problem in edina, i know quite a few girls that go there and the group of girls playing are essentally the group that grew up playing togeather. They built there program the right way, by not searching for quick fixes that open enrolment brings and it will pay dividends in future. I look forward to the hil murray edina game this weekend

I hate even bringing this up because it's brought up so many times... I have no agenda but to discuss issues. Privates and Publics are doing whatever they can to compete.

First Issue: Public school crying that... If all our players would have stayed at our school we'd be this _____ good! This might be true, but many have been gone for a long time.

Who's getting the shaft? Teams like Hopkins, Wayzata, EP, Edina, Kennedy and Minnetonka make up most of the Western private school rosters. We can only wonder how good teams like Hopkins and Minnetonka would be with all their youth players. Probably pretty good, but those players are gone.

Second Issue: Then we get some (not all) private school making comments about certain public schools with open enrolled players. This to me makes no-sense at all since they are doing exactly what privates do under the rules that allow it. Yes, many of the private school players have been enrolled at those private schools for their entire education, but many have not.

The above statements are what cloud the proposed open enrollment changes. I feel no changes will be made for this year, but who knows! I have no solutions, just ideas.

I can't imagine a worse thread to go into the OE/Private discussion other than to say that these teams are great examples of what hockey can be if you have a solid youth program, numbers and a supportive school. Perhaps the discussion should get back to who will win and why.

your right, keeping the kids playing is what it should be about, to me open enrolment is a quick fix for a program becasue your building on shifting sand, but from what I seen Edina is a very good team with a great program behind it. I don't know much about cloquet except they always seem to play tough solid hockey, it will be a great game

What might have been:
Edina with all their youth and no open enrollment 4
Cloquet 1

Edina as is but with Coach Ziegler back 2
Clouqet 1 (His players miss the open net, something they didn't work on in practice)

Was at game, very exciting with some strange bounces. Although Edina outshot Cloquet, good scoring chances were very close, with Edina taking the overall edge. Edina outplayed Cloquet in third, but Cloquet took the overtime period with the better chances to win. When all is said and done, it's just like kissing your brother!
