Assists or Goals?
Who is the better player/Who would you prefer to have on your team:
The player with 50 goals and no assists
OR
The player with 50 assists and no goals
?
The player with 50 goals and no assists
OR
The player with 50 assists and no goals
?
Having both styles of players on your team is key. You need someone to score, and you need someone to feed the puck. I would say the better player is the person who gets the assists. It depends on how good the goal is if you really want to get technical, to say the goal scorer is better. (or how good the goalie is, or the opposing team your playing)

There is nothing better then a pure goal scorer. Someone who can score when you need it most. Yes, somebody needs to feed them the puck, but a pure goal scorer will win you so many games. You can feed your teammates all game long, but unless there is someone on the other end to bury that puck, your not gonna score many goals.

Constantly setting up your teammates is such an important asset to a team, because it takes a special kind of player to do so. But what I am saying about a pure goal scorer is that they are going to be the ones that tie the game with an extra attacker then get the game winner in o.t. To me that is so much more desirable for a team.

Me neither for the reason I pointed out. Having the assist means that the puck did go in the net. Also, if you have someone making all those assists, that means you have people to get 50 pts from goals, whereas with a guy who's getting 50 goals that means he may quite possibly be your only goal scorer.

A player who has 50 goals and no assists would have to be viewed as selfish. A player with 50 assists and no goals would be viewed as a team player.
Gretzky had twice as many assists as goals. His heir apparent, who is leading the NHL in scoring, has 23Gs and 45As (approaching double). If you want to be great in this game, you've got to share the puck.

Goals vs. Dimes
I personally would want the guy that dishes out the Dimes cause I was an assist man myself (although theres nothing better than pumpin a gino), however, where the question really lies is which one gets more ladies?

dave spehar
Dave Spehar was a natural goal scorer, no doubt! May have possibly been the best high school hockey player in minnesota. But some people tend to agree that Spehar's linemate Chris Locker was the better player. He was the one who fed Spehar the puck throughout high school.

Johnny Pohl
In his high school career for Red Wing Pohl put up some impressive numbers. As far as I know, he is the all-time leader in scoring in MN for as long as they have kept records. If I am wrong someone correct me. I have a feeling that Mayasich has much more, but I can't find his stats anywhere.
