1522.86 miles and 24 hours, 53 minutes according to mapquest. So our top 5 teams call their top 5 teams and make a 4 year deal where we go out there twice and they come here twice. You'd make money from the ticket sales as I'm sure many would love to see these games.
Holy Angels used to do this, but then they were winning by 10 goals and it wasn't worth it.

Basketball has a lot more nationwide draw than hockey does.HShockeywatcher wrote:How can you know they had the top team?
Also, there are interstate HS basketball games on ESPN every once in a while of 'big teams' in the national ranking. Couldn't ESPN do that for Holy Angels/Edina/Cloquet/Moorhead to play the tops from Michigan/Massachusetts?
It's all about the Preps and the Juniors out East
State Champ - on the East Coast it's all about Prep School and Junior hockey. High School teams like we talk about are mediocre out there - lots of 9th and 10th graders playing, and the best of those then move on to prep schools or the juniors. Prep schools are tough to compare, too; in the past, a year of prep school after graduating high school was common, now prep schools scoop up much of the 16 and 17 year old talent. The good players often go to the HS as youngsters, play a year of prep, then a year or two of juniors, then off to HE or ECAC or AHA schools. The also have terrific D-III hockey out East and lots of it - a number of top leagues and teams.
It's really tough to compare states because they're so different. The talent pool is really diffused out East.
But one of the knocks on MN kids is that they're often so convinced they're the best that they don't compete well when day to day playing time is at stake - they want to be catered to and pampered. Stuff like this poll can tend to reinforce that - we can be awfully good here in MN, but at some point we have to admit that some awfully good hockey players are born, bred and developed in other regions, as well.
