No doubt it's a uniquely Minnesota event that should be continued in some fashion. Moving back makes sense...don't have the high sun and rare are temps in the 30's in January. I don't see any value in bringing in teams for a couple games in the college rinks, though. FSN can already (and has) televi...

#1 Not sure how a rink being empty or the atmosphere has much to do with the facility itself. Up to the teams to change that. No one has a legit argument against the Little Ralph. #2 Elliot- Have always respected your analysis so have to ask...How far is your tongue buried back in your cheek? Halloc...

Haven't been in em all but for facility-only (tradition not considered) I doubt there's a nicer, more comfortable high school rink to watch a game than the Ralph in Thief River Falls.

kinda miss bemidji in this section....no not their lack of discipline on the ice, 8aa folks can take advantage of that. But not having Bemidji here means no Elliot, and he was many times the only one who actually gave some thought to his opinions on this section. EGF? PR? Everyone might as well just...

Local refs in Warroad and everywhere else do non-section games at home to save on the expense unless they request differently. Section games are always done by out of town refs although linesman can be local. There are limited crews nowadays and it's getting harder to get young refs started and keep...

Based on info included in hiddenman's entry on where top Jefferson players are now, it appears that Lindquist has done a very admirable job of preparing his players for after high school. Maybe someone should talk to these and other players that are no longer in high school and see how they feel abo...

I've heard the 17's are being supplemented by Minnesota kids presently at Ann Arbor. If so, that would explain the shortened roster.

I believe Gothberg is a Summer/Fall '92 birthday making him a very young junior. He's got time to play his senior year and still qualify for a couple years of juniors so he's in a position to do whatever he wants.

And didn't Roseau win the state championship 2 years ago after playing a "weak" schedule? Was Jefferson supposed to decide a year ago to bail on the Lake this year because it's a little weaker? Does Jefferson pick and choose their opponents first so all of these other teams were available ...

TRF 2 Bemidji 1 Comparing scores is not always an accurate way to compare teams but does this score vs the Warroad/Bemidji score mean Warroad is that much better than everyone else in this section? Can Elliot or anyone who saw both games give some (early season) insight?

Typical opener. Good pace, both teams applied good pressure at different times, both got good goaltending, good penalty kill and/or weak power play which is normal early. Nice win for Roseau while they wait for Nick Oliver to heal from broken collarbone. Soph Omdahl filled in nicely. TRF probably di...

I respectfully disagree that section 8a would be better without Warroad. Every sport needs a top dog for everyone else to come gunnin' for every year and Warroad has earned that status, albeit through questionable means at times. Defending champs serve as positive motivation for everyone else to ach...

I understand the questions about players like Skrbec and Kleinendorst not being selected for elite league but did they even try out? Don't think either played in their own Summer tourney last weekend and not sure they're in Duluth this weekend, either. Skrbec is very serious about baseball (not sure...

Roseau is unique unto itself and no other program anywhere, especially given the community's size, turns out the number of quality players year after year like they do. No other community has the number of former D1 and professional players return home to raise and coach their kids, either. Kudos to...

Warroad will carry the play much of the game vs TRF but there are a handful of very good goaltenders in this section and TRF has one of them which gives them a shot.

Warroad has won most of the section titles the last several years no matter where the tourney was played. In the last three years of the rotation: Last year Warroad won in EGF by beating TRF although TR pounded EGF in their own rink in the semis so no home ice advantage there. The year before TRF be...
