would we have to combine all of district 16 into one "A" team then? because Edina and the other big associations have more kids at any given age level then our entire district does. Coop does nothing but exposing fewer kids to a high level of competition just to win a few more games.

The goalie from Grand Rapids is as polished as I have seen in a long time at the Bantam level. I was impressed just watching him in warmups. As far as a forward coming up to help next year, no one stood out to me from what I have seen. Up north, Roseau has a handful of kids that will help (Strand, B...

Actually you state says that you can't play out of your level in peewees and bantams. North Dakota plays as A2 because they don't have B1, Minnesota plays B1 because there is no A2. District 16 can play A2 teams with there B teams because Mr. Elliott says that it is the same thing.

It all depends on if your program is interested in development of individual players or winning games. East Grand Forks had an a2 team at the bantam level and moorhead had an a2 team at the peewee level this season. Moorhead was right around .500 and competed very well. EGF only won a handful of gam...

District 16 should be Roseau, East Grand Forks with Bemidji, TRF and Warroad fighting for the 3rd spot. Single elimination tournament takes alot of the drama out of this tournament. the double elim bracket that was used in the past would really open up the race for the 3rd seed. Top 2 will be tough ...

Maybe it was Ontario or sasaktwan then. A Team that have came to our Squirt tournament a few years ago was talking to me about the checking rules. Either way it makes more sense to me to start earlier. There are a few big Peewee age kids and I can see where a smaller kid could be scared. If they had...

Manitoba starts in Squirts and the reasoning is that they teach them to make contact early before they are big enough to actually hurt somebody by doing it. By the time their players have hit puberty they know how to properly give a hit and how to defend themselves.

Great post except I think you are looking at next years regional match ups. This year D12, D 11, and D 16 are in the North Regional, with D11 hosting. Next year D16 is together with D15 and D10 with D16 only getting 2 teams. Good job breaking down the districts, pretty accurate from what I've seen.

East Grand Forks - November 28-30. 4 games, 17 minute stop time periods. Information for all tournaments at www.egf.pucksystems.com. Good tournament last year with competitive teams from northern MN, Colorado, Winnipeg and Ontario.

I believe that it is Crookston's turn, but I didn't see that it was actually decided on at the D16 meeting. Thief River Falls hosts districts and state for Bantam A, but no idea about regions.

Fargo Forum did report that Lee was skipping his senior year to play for Dean Blaise. I heard that if it wasn't Blaise coaching the team he would have stayed and played football and hockey for Roseau his senior year. I won't comment on if he made the right decision or not, because that is for each i...

This is better than what it was. It does mean that 2 teams will have to play 5 games in 3 days. That seems like an awful lot of hockey.

State "A" Tournaments

At the state hockey meetings, apparently it was decided to have all Minnesota "A" level hockey tournaments in the cities, with championship games being played in the Excel center. Although I think that playing in the Excel center would be a very good experience for the kids, I have some ma...

That Jefferson team was very good, hard to find a better team than them. They were matched up with a very good Moorhead team in that time frame (Jason Blake, Ryan Kraft, Matt Cullen, all NHL) 7 or 8 players that went on to play D1 college hockey. Moorhead could never get past Jefferson though. Also,...

Take the 10 teams that had the highest finishes in the Fargo Tournament and you will have your top 10 Squirt teams in the state. That may miss a couple, but for the most part the best teams in MN were there.

Roseau. If anybody gets a chance to go to a Roseau tournament, do it! Historic facility, good competition, and the potluck at the Legion is excellent. You will learn more hockey in one night at the legion sitting with a handful of ex-nhlers then you probably would ever want to know.

Rick O'Shea, that was one of the dumbest posts that I have ever seen. It is people like you that don't realize that there is more Minnesota north of St. Cloud and give a bad name for all the good cities hockey parents. Grand Rapids was runner-up in the state tournament. EGF beat Grand Rapids during ...
