The T-Breds aren't "hanging on" in a negative way. They have plenty of talent and play hard. Unfortunately, a short bench will catch up with you when you play 20 minute periods at the pace of the JWHL. As has been noted, the dynamics of the sport have changed over the last five years or so...

Speaking of moving on to the college ranks, congrats to Audra Richards, who will be taking her game to Orono, Maine and a resurgent Black Bears program under Maria Lewis.

Another factor is the maturation of hockey as a girls varsity high school sport. Kids can have a great hockey experience without needing T-breads. 15 years ago, they were probably one of the few havens for elite MN girls hockey players, but when you had people like Darwitz, Wendell, Brodts & Cu...

However...there's much more to it than just Minnesota players. those WCHA teams have never garnered the attention or had the success recruiting top players from outside Minnesota and outside the US that the U, UW and UMD have had either, that I'm aware of. That's been a pretty key factor in the succ...

Given the fact that there is so little available to girls to learn, improve or even just mature post HS that I just think this type of program makes a lot of sense. I'd like to see MN Hockey, USHL, NAHL or even USA Hockey form some sort of "juniors" league for the young women - eventually...

At UNH it seems that you might well play anywhere. Never hurts to be able to play up as well as back, and vice versa

With women's varsity hockey not likely to materialize out of Mich. State or Michigan anytime soon, I don't think you're going to see a Big Ten conference for the women anytime soon either. Although circumstances are different for CC and DU...not likely to see division I women's hockey from either o...

But this is bad news for the fans of the WCHA and the Huskies, Mavericks, Bulldogs and Susie Q's(or whatever their name will be).......... Everyone immediately assumes that the WCHA will be left in the lurch. Having six Big 10 teams allows for a Big 10 championship, like the Ivy League schools do i...

Any idea about the cost of the gate fee, bringing some guests and just need an idea of the fee. I can't remember the fee last year but I don't think it was cheap. For some reason, I was thinking $20-$25 for a weekend pass but I could be wrong. This is wrong on so many levels. Might as well put up a...

All of the games are on campus, with the Friday and Saturday match-ups on the big sheet, and Sunday's at Ridder. Thoroughbreds are currently in third place in ...

Re: An Alternative

Follow the Thoroughbreds this year and have your daughter tryout next summer. This is a highly dedicated group of women that really want to play. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Minnesota-Thoroughbreds-Hockey/123904907683 Why wait. At the very least they might be looking for a practice or fill-in goa...

My daughter for instance made sure she was accepted by all schools she has been interested in before making a decision. Good to know Melvin. I have a follow up question. I agreee with what you're saying about finding a coach and team you like. But I've also heard horror stories of girls picking a school they hate and then transfering. Or commiting to play for a school they've never seen and than regreting it for four years. Why not try to find both. I just happen t...

Thanks Hux and JoeHockey. Sounds like - 1) women's hockey might be more competitive than some of the other sports I have delt with my other kids. 2) need to focus on unofficial visits - during Junior year. Any benefit to starting Soph year or are the coaches primarily focused on 2011 grads? Good qu...

When MN sent 51 great players on 3 teams to NAHA this weekend we are disadvantage when a National coach or College Coach watches some of the US or CDN teams who have played and practiced together - the teams are discplined and able to show creativeness - players know and trust line mates and give p...

Even if rules allowed for it, there is little chance anyone would want to as the JWHL and tournament schedule is pretty intensive.

And they dropped the third game 3-1, with a late empty netter. Apparently the Red, White and Blue had the upper hand for most of the game but were stymied by some excellent goaltending.
