Re: Slapshots
I walked through rink #5 this weekend at SuperRink while a tryout was going on just in time to see a kid come across the blue line and fire a pretty good looking slapshot from the top of the circle to beat the goalie. Turns out it was a 2002-2003 tryout. I haven't seen that very often (or ever in f...

Re: Really?
I believe it will have a negative impact especially on D4 teams. Coaching youth hockey is a commitment that exceeds even a parents commitment to their kids. If a district wants to turn the coach into a "team role model", then let them drop competitive hockey and shut down the score board....

Can my sons aaa team play in a girls tourney? I will never understand why my daughter was able to play with the boys and my son can play with the girls. Isn't that fair. Could care less a girls team won. Give it 4 years replay the game. Good luck ladies. Why? Do you want your sons to play on a girl...

The point is they are a team made up with kids from several different organizations in the interest of bringing the best possible team to The Brick. Blades should take a page from that book before they lose their berth for not doing more to assure the strength of their team. It's a neat opportunity...

Totally Orange. Have you seen some of the schedules? 98's, for example (since someone mentioned that age group in particular) have Machine playing one game Thurs., two Fri., and just one game Sat., and plus they are done by 4:00. Icemen, Manitoba Steelers, Synergy, play two games Sat. and don't fin...

My take: I think everyone will consent to the facts that refing is difficult…you can really only gain a greater level of competence thru experience…and… the better the competitors the easier it is to ref. I use to officate softball… so I know this. The A leagues games (even though you are dealing w...

Re: I need to restate this a little more aggressively
I said something to the extent that ref's are geared to being boy ref's and then have to adopt to being girl ref's. The idea is that they don't know how to adopt. So, I got a bunch of replies that suggested there isn't a difference other than checking and refs are perfectly trained from day one. So...

Just a little insight for all you fans of the refs....When I am standing at center ice during the national athem before the game, I give thanks and ask for GOD's bleessing. I start with the players, coaches, fans and officiating crew that we ALL have a safe and fair game. I then go on to give thank...

5-4 Wayzata over EP in OT Interesting game, officiating was bad both ways (no surprise in D6), EP had a player thrown out and finished with 2 or 3 consecutive PP to end the game. Game was 4-1 mid way through the 3rd and EP rallied to tie it before Wayzata bagged the game winner a few minutes into O...

Re: rule change
The rule change applies to the hand pass. It is now treated the same as playing the puck with a high stick. As for grasping the puck, that results in a stoppage and the face off is at 1 of the 9 designated dots on the ice (closest to the infraction). If it occurs in the offensive zone, it comes out...

If the players are not keeping their mouth guards in their mouths, be ready to have a player sit for 10 mines. They will get it figured out. If you can't coach and discipline your players, the refs can always help you do your job. We had a player given a 10 Min penalty for not having his tethered m...

I am a D6 ref...Thanks for all the kind words...As far as the mouth guard rule, you play by your district rules. If a tether is not required by your district, it will not be required when in D6. Make sure the mouth gaurd is not clear, USA Hockey Rule. If you are compliant, you should have no worries...
