Re: Orono impressed me
shibby don't get me wrong but LOW sure gave Warroad a run for their money in section championship game for 8a... went into overtime obviously the orono/warroad ot came out with a different outcome. i think the LOW game made them prepare for state a lot harder considering it was so close. good luck to both warroad and orono! great game!!!

Did the Best Team Win?
Well, yeah...last night anyway. That's why they play the games. If the two squads played 10 times, perhaps Warroad would win most of those games...but that's not how it works.

Orono played a great game last night; their forecheck was terrific and they had Warroad on their heels for most of the night. They WERE the better team last night...and in a "One loss you're out" format, that's all that matters.

Finally, congrats and kudos to Warroad and their fans as well. It was a great tilt.

Re: Orono impressed me
I agree with Topshelf, this did not seem like the Warroad team I watched a number of times earlier this year. I think this game came down to depth. For some reason, Eades went to 2 lines early in the 3rd period with a spot shift for his 3rd line. Orono rotated 3 lines, with a spot shift by the 4th line. The Orono coach said early in the game that they would be fresher than Warroad in the 3rd and he was right. This is the first time that I have seen the confident Warriors rattled. I believe Warroad did peak a little early as they struggled through the regional as well. A person has to feel especially bad for the Bengston and Hardwick kids who had to watch from the stands because of injuries last year and then ousted in the first round this year. As far as the penalty call and no call. I believe it comes down to scoring opportunities. Warroad's penalty took away a great scoring chance and the bump on the goalie did not. That's my take on it. Great effort Orono and congrats on your win. I have to say that I don't always like Eades and his coaching styles, but I don't think I have seen much more of a classy act than when he handed the Orono kid the game winning puck in the handshake line. Great sportsmanship!!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... efan>Green and White Fan at: 3/11/04 8:44 am

Re: did the best team win?
To answer your question, yes the best team won on that particular night. orono had a shaky start but after the first half of the first period they out hustled Warroad at both ends of the ice. Orono has a great team and they totally deserve to be in the Semi-finals. Congrats to them. But being from Warroad I will root for the Northern team which is also the underdog. Go Hibbing.

Bet's off
I'm enjoying the civility of this thread.

If it's any consolation, Videoscout, my pool is shot. I took the Warriors to win it all. Also, the boys got to bitching about parking and we changed our cribbage venue to Spanky's on St. Paul's west side. Regarding that bet, buy a beverage for the first person you see in Orono garb.

Too bad Warroad didn't play as they can - just couldn't get any rhythm. Sure was impressed with that goalie's guts and stability. Kudos and good luck to Orono.

Class Act
By far the best moment of the tournament so far:

Cary Eades handing the puck to the Orono kid who scored the game-winner. That's one of the classiest things I've ever seen. My opinion of Eades changed totally last night.

That was an awesome game, and the team that deserved to win, did. I think if they keep up that level of play, they could win it all.

Re: Class Act
Based on what went on last night , the best team won.

I dont think there is any doubt that Warroad was outplayed, and they played well. Orono was impressive.

If Orono maintains that level, they could win it but Breck is very good.

Re: Class Act
Lets not get carried away here. What Eades did was very classy, but it still doesn't make up for alot of the other crap he pulls with officials and such throughout the year. It was a very nice thing to do at the right moment, but he still has a ways to go before my opinion changes. Maybe he is mellowing in his old age. Time will tell.

Orono Warroad game
I'm really looking forward to see Orono play again. I'm rooting for them to take it all this year now. It's too bad Warroad lost though, I want to see them play again. I would have to say I dont think they played their best game last night.

warroad/orono
To be honest i saw this coming from the section semi-final. I thought Thief River Falls put a dent in Warroads dreams and then LOW almost put an end to them. Bottem line is what i thought in the beginning of the year was Warroads strength turned out to be their biggest weakness. Their defensemen are very slow and quick forwards eat them alive. I am sorry but unless Hardwick improves his foot speed he has no chance at the next level. I think the loss of Warroads 5th defenseman was a huge blow to Warroad. They will have to get on the recruiting trail pretty heavy or the future does not look good. Last place team in the Bantam districts and after next years Seniors " if they all Stay" they have no depth and very little talent. EGF all the way!!

and Breck will smoke Orono
I agree, you can't look past Breck here. I go out to the pond at woodhill and skate with the Orono kids and I can tell you they have nowhere near the skill as the top two lines at Breck. I don't think Orono would have gotten to the semifinals in section 5a (Blake, Breck, Benilde, Totino, Mahtomedi, and St. Louis Park) and Breck was able to dominate that section with the exception of the section final game against Blake.

There's just too much skill on that Breck team, but I guess we can believe in miracles.

Re: and Breck will smoke Orono
The thing I noticed was that time after time Warroads defense kept getting their shots bocked by Orono's forwards. Eventually I thought one of the Warroad defensemen would fake the shot and step around the kid on the ice, or Orono would get a good bounce and a breakaway. Unfortunatley for Warroad it was the latter. The better team on this night won, and that was a classy act by Eades.

As for Breck, when AL was fresh Breck struggled, the game was at best even if not tilted to the AL side. AL could only run 2 lines, and at times it didn't seem #5 came off the ice. Orono showed they can run 3 lines, I think that should they both get there, Orono will give Breck a run for their money.
