Rules, Rules, Rules, . . .
I wouldn't mind seeing the Elks removed for the playoffs.
The thing is that most teams in this league follow the rules, whether they like them or not. That's a major part in the success of the MHL. Then D10 comes along and decides that they don't have to follow the rules if they don't want to. Elk River is a good team, no doubt. But with the extra players a coach has the option to draw penalties against the other team and still have depth. Thus one of the reasons for the rule.

I wasn't really trying to research every game that Elk River played, just offer something to think about. It's obvious that they played 21 players most of the season. The Tartan game is the only one that is open for discussion by MAHA. I just need to decide how far I want to push it.

Just think, the Skippers are even technically still in the running for the playoffs!

Oops, time to head up to the rink.

Re: Final standings
I think they look right on, with a minor change . . .

2-3-4 should read:

EP Black
Burnsville
EP Red

Based on the tiebreaker system from the league. I know many people are checking on this with league.

Do we really finally have a playoff lineup??

tartancoach
tartancoach - elk river had 21 players because that is the number of kids who tried out for the team. i have been told by the coach he didn't want to cut a kid who didn't have another option/team to play for. any way how do you rationalize one extra kid causing tartan to be beat 7-0.

sounds a little stale at least.

hope to see you in play-offs

Elkman is Correct.
True statement, Elk-Man! Good to see you this season - could have used throughout this season to get scores and highlights! Better late than never, eh? That's great that your coach didn't want cut one guy. But you CANNOT SUIT UP 21 players and sit them on your bench. Regardless of a 7-0 win v Tartan. A rule is a rule.

But, Tartan does have sour grapes. They'll get their chance to avenge that in the playoffs - or will they?

Time to retire
Elkman - the score of the game is really irrelevant. I would have raised the issue whether we won or lost. The fact is that the old fart that runs D10 feels that he doesn't have to follow USA / MAHA rules. Furthermore, the coach knows the rule and should have followed it instead of taking the word of a senile old man.

I could raise a dozen or more argument about the implications of having extra players in a game and the options for the 21st player on the roster (Anoka isn't too far from ER), but it's time to look forward to the playoffs.

Good luck next week!

Just in case...
Tartancoach wanted to know if the above standings were correct - see MNOBgyn's response the match-ups for Big Monday:

1 ER v 8 ROSE
2 EPB V 7 WBO
3 Bville V 6 CEN
4 EPR v 5 Tarts

Good stuff! good match-ups perhaps we should get some predictions...????

Final Standings & Playoffs
I talked to a rep from MHL yesterday and they have corrected the website to reflect the games. Here is the final Top 12:

Elk River 22 2 1 153 32 121 45
Eden Prairie - Black 21 2 2 3 0 3 44
Burnsville 21 2 2 2 0 2 44
Eden Prairie - Red 21 2 2 1 0 1 44
Tartan 20 4 1 158 56 102 41
Centennial 20 5 0 148 52 96 40
White Bear Lake - Orange 18 4 3 146 42 104 39
Roseville 16 4 5 123 48 75 37
Edina 17 6 2 121 61 60 36
White Bear Lake - Black 15 7 3 2 0 2 33
RAVE 16 8 1 1 0 1 33
Minnetonka 13 11 1 2 0 2 27

Rat - you were right on (BTW, even though we did not beat BP, our tie against BP got Tonka into the playoffs)

Winners go on to Regions:
2/23/04 (2/25/03)
1 ER v 8 ROSE (L Vs Tonka)
4 EPR v 5 Tarts (L Vs Edina)
2 EPB V 7 WBO (L Vs RAVE)
3 Bville V 6 CEN (L Vs WB-B)

All District games at Plymouth Ice Center

predictions
Nah, no Predictions from CG of the RV today. Best of luck to everybody tomorrow night. Looks like it will be a damned good night of hockey. Looks like we might be the only real underdog tomorrow. See everybody at the rink.

Right on SLiPper
I suppose you want a free dinner, eh? You are right your tie and Bville's W helped my Tonka squad get in. Not real proud to a part of a 6-game L-streak that results in a (Packer-like) back-into the playoffs. I would have rather seen BP play Wayzata and win to get in. But you can't control what you can't control. BP didn't want to play due to a hefty fine & fees by the MHL - so they're done and Tonka is in. The Skips have played well at times and can really compete but haven't found a rhythm down the stretch. Perhaps with some knuckleheads out of the line up (4 gone for fighting) there could be some cohesiveness. We'll find out Wed night.
