irondale vs. bsm
tuesday at the shwans super rink confrence match up of BSM and Irondale. the first meeting BSM walked all over Irondale 8-0 but it looks like they've improved very much since then.
Re: irondale vs. bsm
It will be closer, but expect BSM to take this one fairly easy!lovetopuck wrote:tuesday at the shwans super rink confrence match up of BSM and Irondale. the first meeting BSM walked all over Irondale 8-0 but it looks like they've improved very much since then.

reality check
Wouldn't expect much. Both teams have gotten better, not just Irondale. Irondale has built a nice competitive team but they are not in the league of BSM, despite all the recent postings here.
BSM (or Edina) could easily upset EP in sections this year and either would be considered early favorites to win it all once (or if) that happens.

If forum buzz could help teams win this place would be a lot more crowdedlovetopuck wrote:im just trying to create some buzz here. it should be a much more intresting game this time around though

With all the noobie Irondale love going on around here all it tends to do is stretch credibility beyond the breaking point.
Hopefully we can keep this place from becomming like the boys HS and youth forums and maintain an intelligent level of conversation. I give a lot of credit to Irondale as they've got a nice team and have done very well compared to past seasons, but I'm sure I echo many who find a poll for a rematch of a 8-0 game and three pages of posts on an 8th grader to be a bit much.
No offense and good luck to your squad.

Let's just see what happens in the rematch. It's on there home ice now.
Keepitreal, How many pages of posts do you consider being ok to post for an 8th grader? Have you seen her play? I would have to say that 3 pages is not enough. What 8th grader should we be talking about? What other 8th grader is in the top 5 in the metro in scoring? Please let me know so I can go watch her.

its not so much a poll about an 8-0 rematch. more a poll about the 13th ranked team in the stating playing the 4th.
Thanks lovetopuck!! Very good posts! Nice job trying to create a buzz!Let's hope it's a good game tonight.
so basically its an hour before this game happens, and i just want to point out that i never said irondale was going to win. so if they are defeated dont be going "oh i told you so". all i've been trying to say is this should be a good game to watch

Re: reality check
so anyway i dont know if anyone saw the game. it was a 2-2 tie. Benilde's 2nd goal was a bad call because they said Irondale's goalie skated into the net and the puck crossed the line when niether ref was in any postion to make that call. anyway, i guess it was closer then everyone here thought...except me? and a couple of others?

yes, after the second goal was cleared as no goal about 5 minutes went by and then they called it a goal. the goal was scored by going off of a skate, which should be ruled a non-goal. both refs were in the center of the rink and could not have seen it clearly, this game should have been a 1-2 irondale victory. bsm became very cheap and punches were thrown towards the end of the third and continued into o.t....it was clear that irondale really got under bsm's skin in this tied game.

Actually the puck clearly was in and it was a one-timer with a stick, not a skate. The ref closest to the play hesitated and the other ref who did see it properly overruled him. Irondale clearly got the calls and the missed calls the whole night, including a very questionable "interference" call with 2 1/2 minutes to go which allowed them to tie it up. Then at the end of the overtime with BSM pressing for a goal, they finally call one on Irondale, only to even it out by calling a bench minor on BSM. I usually don't complain about the referees but unfortunately in this game there was some obvious home cooking going on out there.hockeyfancy wrote:yes, after the second goal was cleared as no goal about 5 minutes went by and then they called it a goal. the goal was scored by going off of a skate, which should be ruled a non-goal. both refs were in the center of the rink and could not have seen it clearly, this game should have been a 1-2 irondale victory. bsm became very cheap and punches were thrown towards the end of the third and continued into o.t....it was clear that irondale really got under bsm's skin in this tied game.
Still, you have to give a lot of credit to Irondale for playing an excellent game. They were however fortunate to catch Benilde on an off night as it was not the same team as we've seen since early in the year.
You also have to give credit to the Irondale fans which turned out in droves and gave their team a big boost. Lots of students and even the band came to watch and cheer loud for their team.

Nor was it Irondale's night. I agree the ref's were off tonight, for both teams. Irondale is a stronger team than they showed tonight as well. But it is enjoyable to watch them defend themselves when the opposite team is cheap. Physical good game for both teams, although I have seen much better out of irondale.

i was suprised that should a strong team from a privite school could be so cheap. you'd think they'd have the sportsmanship and etiquete to be somewhat respectful. but i agree that it was an off night for both team, and i talked to one of the players who heard the one of the refs say it wasnt a goal and that it was a mistake to the other ref but they decided to keep it.

ummmm.... irondale is the underdog of the year! last nites tie shows that they can take on anyone...renee brasuhn had an excellent game and it shows that the team can rise to any challenge. it was probably one of the best games i have ever seen! the second goal that benilde scored 1 minute into the second period was bullcrap...trunzo talked to the ref and they decided to call it a goal! but as usual irondale overcame this obstacle and ended up tying the # 5 team in the state! people dont give these girls enough credit....

I had a very good vantage point and the puck definitely went in. The ref who hesitated was not in a good position to tell if it was a goal or not - and this does happen sometimes - was right in calling it a non-goal because he did not see it go in. The other ref, although further away, had a better angle and apparently did see it cross the line. So he was correct in conferring with the other ref, which led to the ruling that it was a goal.lovetopuck wrote:I was suprised that (such) a strong team from a privite school could be so cheap. you'd think they'd have the sportsmanship and etiquete to be somewhat respectful. but i agree that it was an off night for both team, and i talked to one of the players who heard the one of the refs say it wasnt a goal and that it was a mistake to the other ref but they decided to keep it.
As for BSM not having "sportsmanship and etiquete to be somewhat respectful" I think this mainly arose out of frustration from not being able to score despite having numerous opportunities and a strong territorial advantage during long stretches throughout the game. A couple of times there was some pushing and shoving after the whistle which sometimes you do see in a hockey game, especially when the action is intense and the opposing teams are really battling one another. BSM needs to show more discipline in these situations and learn to avoid the retaliatory type penalties, which has been a problem in several games this year.
